Hey,
My desktop is connected to my router via cable. And it randomly gets disconnected from time to time. I've tried re-installing drivers. I get the red X on my network icon in the taskbar, which usually happens when a cable is unplugged. I fixes it self after a minute or 2, its never longer than 1 minute, usually 10-15 seconds, and it happens ever 10-15 minutes.

My wifi works fine, and I have a vonage box connected to my main router which works fine too. It's just my desktop. I've tried different ports, same problem.

I'm heading home in a few hours and I've picked up a new 5 meter cable to check with.

What else could be the problem if the new cable doesn't fix it.

My network adapter is the on baord one on the Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks.

Seems to be something wrong within the cable or could be the network card within your pc? Did you try the cable on any other pc or that?

I'll find out about the cable if I get off work and get home in about 30 minutes. I really hope it isn't the network adapter... my VGA cards already block my PIC slot so a internal replacement isn't an option. Might have to look into a USB one.

Maybe it is just the cable could be a brake in it somewhere. But it could be the built in network. If so could you not get a PCIe one that should'nt be to close to the PCI, only if you have a PCIe slot.

So its been around 4 hours using the new cable. So far so good. Looks like the old cable was faulty, lasted 4 years.
Phew! I'll post back if anything happens in the next few days.

PS - my PCIe slot has my sound card in it. so no luck there.

Well at least it's not a major problem and you won't have to do anything else :)
