So I want to network my OLD Vista laptop and my NEW 7 desktop. Both are named Chase-PC. I open Networks (on the desktop) and open Chase-PC and it opens my desktop files, not the laptop. If I go to my mothers vista it opens my vista laptop..

Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to change the PC name, but if required, I can do it.

Cheers!

Suggest you bite the bullet and rename one machine before you get something snagged up like files etc.....Your call but my recommendation before it is too late!!

Really every PC on a LAN needs to have a different Computer Name.
Change the notebook to Chase Notebook, drop the PC you already know it is a computer, and the desktop to Chase Desktop.

Even if the LAN would work with computers having the same computer name it would become very confusing.

IP addresses and computer names are like Sir names and State/City/street addresses. What would the mailman do if everyone on street X had the same name.
