Hi,
I'm having a problem with getting an external media device (Mediagate MG-35) that I use to watch media files on my TV to network through a 4-port router to my PC O/S windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit via a Cat5 LAN network cable to the router.
The device sees the computer but cannot access the shared hard drives.
Previous O/S was WinXP 64-Bit & setup worked fine & I have not changed these settings on the Mediagate or my router port forward settings when I changed O/S.
All my hard drives on my PC that have media files have been setup to be shared.
As far as I can tell the firewall is not blocking any of the shared files.
I have tried to look for the Network Settings-Local Area Connection Profile on Win7 but can't seem to find it to check that my TCP/IP address setup is correct.
One other possibilty is the Registry\LocalMachine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Parameters section of the registry that I had to amend the RPStackSize in WinXP for the device to read the shared folders.
In Win 7 I cannot find any such parameters as was in WinXP.
The only thing I found in the registry that could possible relate to this was in the 'PCI' -Services-Parameters. Do I need to setup a new Services Parameter Section?
Any advice in getting the Mediagate to network with my PC would be appreciated.

Cheers

Teddals:(

So is the problem with W7 going to the shares on the media device or the other way around, or both?

When in XP, how did you setup the shares and what method did u use to connect to these shares, to and from where? Give an exmaple.

First off the Mediagate is not a computer but a device which has the ability to network to a computer
via a CAT5 LAN cable through a router which enables media files(mpeg, avi,VOB.etc) to be viewed on a TV.

The XP setup Network LAC settings the TCP/IP properties for the Mediagate:
DHCP........On
NDAS........Off
IP............010.001.001.010
Subnet.....255.255.255.000

Setup hard drives to share as per network sharing & security under hard drive properties setup in WinXP.
My router in a Belkin 4 port router.

Windows IP Configuration (WinXP)

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : master
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description...................... : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Physical Address................. : 00-1A-4D-0F-7c-BC
Dhcp Enabled..................... : Yes
Autoconfigeration Enabled........ : Yes
IP Address....................... : 10.1.1.5
Subnet Mask...................... : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway.................. : 10.1.1.1
DHCP Server...................... : 10.1.1.1
DNS Servers...................... : 10.1.1.1
I'm sure it is something in the Windows7 setup that is not allowing the Mediagate to see the shared hard drives.
It sees the PC as Master but I go the open Master it tells me there is no shared files to view.
When the setup is operating correctly I can see (on The TV screen) all my PC shared hard drives
e.g.E,D,F, and when I open each I can see all the directories & shared files.

yeah you definitly want to read the manual... that is a great source...

brought back alot of memores when i saw photos of windows 98, me and 2000...

brought tears to my eyes.

so how do you have your setup now. do you have it a static network or are you pulling dynamic from the router?

the only thing i saw that i didn't like about that device was that it only accepted fat32 partitions... you know how much of a pain in the *** it is i your trying to put a hard drive with movies in it *lol*

just think... 320 gig hard drive and every 32 gigs you have to divide the partition

That only applies to hard drives actually fitted in the device itself & viewing via Local Control..
All my PC hard drives are NTFC SATA & no problems reading them on WinXP.
I'm pulling dynamic from the router.l

Win7 cannot ping the medigate.

You need to get W7 talking to the medigate. When the medigate hook up to the router, is it getting IPs or do u give it manual ip?

You need to setup the IP in the software that comes with medigate. Is there nothing in the software utility that allow you to put in IP details?

I set the IPs manually.
The Mediagate already has a static IP address of 10.1.1.010
What I need is for Win7 to pull an IP address from my Real network card.

You need to change that static ip to an ip that your W7 can recognise. What is your current W7 Ipconfig details?

Hi Teddals,

Can you make a photo out of the interface where you access share over on mediagate? To be safe, you need to set Username/Password on your Windows 7, and access shares by providing credentials. That's the least painful way...

In windows your IPS will be:

10.1.1.11 for your computer okay
subnet: 255.255.255.0

if you follow the screen shots and go in there, it will tell you the gateway... please write that down
and also write down the DNS as well.

If you can get into your router... your gateway is the routers address: 10.1.1.1 something like that

then you will want to go into your status page and check for your WAN... you will have DNS numbers...copy those down and that isw here you will put in the DNS for the static ip

if all else fails and you can't get back on the internt, revert everything back to obtain ips automatically... okay.

Set Static IP Address in Windows 7 | MacLochlainns Weblog

update====

i checked your ipconfig...

your gateway is: 10.1.1.1
dns: 10.1.1.1

so this will be the informatin you put in:

IP: 10.1.1.11
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.1.1.1

DNS: 10.1.1.1
