New Backups keep showing deleted folders and files

Current Win 7 version: 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1). Right after I installed Win 7 Pro, I disabled automatic updates.

I deleted folders and files directly from the C drive. I even went to Backup and Restore>Manage Space>View Backups and deleted all existing backups. Also did deleted the backup folder and MediaID.bin file from the backup drive.

No matter what, when I do a new backup, the backup keeps showing folders and files that I DEFINITELY deleted from the C drive, it shows them when I browse the backup for files. What am I missing here? I Googled and was unable to find anything. Do I need a specific Win update? If so, what is the patch?

Thanks ahead of time, this is driving me nuts.

I don't think anyone is responding because it doesn't make sense and you seem to know what you're doing.
Obviously: make sure you are targeting the right and only destination for backups. Try running the "change settings" again and point to an external HDD that you have assigned a specific letter.

You've got that right, yup, it doesn't make sense at all when it comes to back up software.

I am targeting the right and only destination D drive for backups, that's where the backups are stored on. As far as I know at this time, one cannot easily start the backup settings from scratch without deleting those settings completely without going into the regedit, or something in that respect, that I came across just the other day.

I will first check to see if there is a Win 7 patch for Backup and Restore. If not, I will check how to wipe out the backup settings and start from scratch.

This is just one of those really annoying quirks.

Ahhh, one thing I did try and noticed today, is that even though the Restore My Files>Browse for Files or Browse for Folders, it will state that "The restore did not complete successfully" and that the issue is that it cannot validate/find the folder or files within the backup zip file. So, for some buggy reason, Win 7 initial folder settings will retain the initial settings, even if you deleted folders and save the current settings again, it keeps showing the initial folders/files that you have setup within Backup and Restore right from the start, even though they are not actually being saved in the backups anymore. Now, just need to figure out how to get rid of those initial folder settings.

If anyone has a way to do this easily, please let me know.

Spoke with MS support, they have no clue.

[SIZE=-1]To answer my own question, most likely the issue and fix.

I spoke with MS tier 2 tech support for 1.5 hours today. The tech guy used LogMeIn to try to figure out what the issue is. On the drive where the backup files are stored, that are within the computer name folder, where the backup folder and files and the MediaID.bin are stored. After almost 1.5 hours, I noticed that there was another MediaID.bin in the root of the backup drive, which had a much older date time stamp with the same filename as the one within the computer name folder. So, I mentioned that backup drive's root MediaID.bin file to the tech guy, he went and deleted that file, plus the complete computer name folder, performed a new backup and it worked.

After getting off the phone, I tested it again and found that only the MediaID.bin files in the root of the backup drive and in the computer name folder needs to be deleted first, of course you'll need to delete the existing Backup file/folder also, then do a new backup. It's not necessary to delete the computer name folder, but even if you do, the Backup feature to recreate it anyway.
