New build BSOD 0x0000124 Blue screen crash - DM log uploaded!

Many thanks for your advice. - The hardware monitor in the bios shows the vcore voltage at 1.128v, the 3.3v at 3.37, the 5v at 5.12v and the 12v at 12.091 which is confusing! CPU temp is 48 and MB temp is 26.

The only real difference in the set up is that for Windows 7 I've used a re-formatted hard drive which is actually exactly the same spec as my old drive running XP (this drive was not present when I installed windows 7).

thanks again!

Just managed to get speccy and HW to run under windows 7. They showed a 12v reading of around 7.5v and the CPU was running at around 60! Rebooted an it was around 49 but steadilly rising!

The numbers in BIOS are usually more correct. Software readings are notoriously wrong, that's why they should be used a guidelines and not absolute numbers. It is also a possibility you have some bad sensors on your board, that's what software reads. It's not my money, but if it were me, I would buy a new quality PSU first. That is most likely needed, and removes that as a concern for your problems. Plus, you can use you graphics card again.

Thanks again for all your suggestions guys. No real update as I've not been able to change any hardware - but the pc is now crash as soon as Windows 7 loads from the welcome screen - and this was from completely cold both this morning and again tonight.

Looking at the BIOS monitor the voltages are still looking right but the CPU temp is sitting steady at around 52, rising quickly from about 34 at start up.CPU fab speed is 1480 rpm - would a new cooler fan help?

I still don't understand why the pc will boot using the XP hard drive and run fine, but not the 7 drive. Check the hard drive twice for bad sectors etc and both times been clean. I guess the error messages don't point to the new hard drive but could that be the culprit???....

Yes it could. You can run the manufacturer of the hard drive's diagnostic test and see. You can also, disconnect the XP hard drive an run the windows start up repair. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html

The temps for your CPU are high, but not dangerously high. They may get dangerously high if put under a lot of stress, but are not that way now. The problem could be the air flow through the case, the cooler or the thermal paste used. Personally, I never use the stock coolers, as they are not very good and usually are pretty loud as well.

Seatools for Dos, run the short and long test http://www.seagate.com/support/inte...-electronics/ld25-series/seatools-dos-master/

Cheers - all the diagnostics I did were the windows 7 internal ones. Bit of a daft question but as I can't get the windows 7 hard drive to run at the moment can I do the test booting on the XP drive wit the 7 drive showing as just an additional drive?

One last thing - I dint install any motherboard drivers as the new 7 install seemed to be running ok - should I have? Thanks!

I would at least install the chipset drivers, then when you are able to boot, go to device manager and see what yellow icons you see, Those are devices with no drivers. Install drivers for them. I know you will need the USB 3.0 drivers and probably the Lan Driver.

Both tests I linked to are bootable, you boot into the test not the OS. The start up repair you can boot into the installation DVD, about the 2nd or 3rd screen you will see fix my computer in the bottom right. Click that. The tutorial will explain that. The Seagate for dos is much the same way, You can boot into the CD or whatever media you use, and run the test from there. It will give better results when you are not booted into the drive you are testing.

Great will give that a go and thanks again for your help here! The pc has been running just the Bios and the monitor temp is still 54, but then it has no load as you say! I think a new cooler would e a good idea especially as I have no thermal paste. The only driver I noticed with a yellow ! when I could access the 7 drive was something like Terredo Tunneling psuedo something - don't if that's important!

Thermal paste is important, and the right amount too. It is relatively cheap and any top brand is good. You can also get a decent cooler for not much money. I use the Noctua brand, but most of the Artic brands are good too and cost around $10 in the US. Most any of the top brands will do you fine and there is honestly little difference in them, but I never use the pre applied paste on any cooler. But, you have to clean off the old paste and apply new paste. When you get ready, just let me know, and I'll tell you how.

Hi the new drive passed both long and short seagate tests. Just found one thing tho. The system has been crashing more or less seconds after the desktop loaded after the welcome screen. During this time I had the graphics card still attached tot he board but not connected up. I've just removed the card entirely and the system hasn't crashed yet so I've been able to install the motherboard drivers. All was going well until I tried to install the graphics and the screen suddenly went blank - pc continued to run the finally rebooted - I'm assuming this is not good!! This seems to point to something graphics related as there have been instances before when it wouldn't display anything when coming out of hibernation
!

Did you reboot and then have graphics? The graphics card attached but not connected may have been causing a lot of the problems. Some boards, when the bios detects an X16 device will try to disable on board graphics. When you install graphics drivers, it is not uncommon for the screen to go black. It usually comes back on, but it can need a reboot to completely install and write entries to the registry. So, let me know what is happening now. Also, please click start, type device manager into the search box, click the device manager entry that appears and expand display adapters by clicking the small arrow next to it and tell me what it says. Then right click the entry, select properties and tell me want it says there. It should say 'This device is working properly'.

EDIT: When you say you installed the graphics driver, are you talking about the Intel graphics or the 450 graphics? With the 450 removed, it should not be able to install those drivers.

You can do it, but it may be the combination of the 450 drivers and the on board drivers. It seems you do have a driver problem. When the OS starts to load, that's when the drivers are activated and also when you start to BSOD or freeze up. If you have removed the 450, please go to control panel > Add remove programs and uninstall all the Nvidia graphics drivers if you are not using the card. Uninstall all the NVidia graphics drivers, but uninstall the graphic driver last. You probably have under Nvidia a HDMI driver, 3D vision driver PhysX driver. Uninstall all of them, but the graphics driver last. It will ask you to reboot, do so and see if that is better.

Also, how far along are you on this install?

I'd more or less finished the install and was just updating programmes, copying data across etc.Basically got the system just about set up. I've managed to uninstall all the Nvidia drivers and uninstalled the graphics one last - just before it blue-screened!

Edit - it's back to bluescreening as soon as the desk top loads... I wonder if a complete reinstal is my best option here

How is it running now? Is it any better, or are you having the same problems. If you are, please shut down and start it back up, when you see the manufacturer's logo, start tapping F8, you should get a screen with recovery options, choose safe mode with networking. Everything will look strange, but it is supposed to. Almost none of the programs will work, but you should be able to get internet access so you can post here. Try that if you are still having problems.

Thanks - its just bluescreened in the middle of start up recovery off the installation DVD! Also doing it as soon as the desktop loads in normal or safe mode! Seems to be back to crashing just about as soon as anything loads other than the BIOS...!
