New build BSOD 0x0000124 Blue screen crash - DM log uploaded!

I think it would be best to run it, even though it is time consuming. We will at least know the ram is OK. As far as the bios, I would set it to optimized defaults for Windows 7 and set the sata controller to AHCI. If you install in IDE, it's OK, I just think AHCI is better. If you set it to defaults, set the boot order to DVD/cd as first boot device and the Hard drive as second boot device. That way there will be no trouble booting from a CD or DVD when necessary. Also, look at your motherboard and look at the holes for the standoff screws, then look at the case and see if the standoffs are an exact match and there are no extra standoffs in the case.

OK great - I'll set Memtest away in the next few minutes. What would you recommend as the most optimised BIOS for windows 7? I'll set the Sata to AHCI for starters but anything else to look out for? I don't think this is the most sophisticated of bios but there will no doubt be a load of things I wouldn't know what to look for?!

If you set bios to optimized defaults (a setting in BIOS) it should set everything to optimum values. When in BIOS look at the screen, it should have an option of optimized defaults (F5 on newer boards and possibly that one too) if you can't see it, there should be a help option in bios. Try that and see what it says.

Running the test, The only option I saw was F1 for manual and f2 for default set up in the bios. I went for sutom and the only change I mase other than to set time and date was to set sata to ahci (it seems to want to default to IDE for some reason!

Every bios has a default built in. The earlier ones seems to always be IDE. Some still are, but the trend seems to be going to the default being AHCI.

Paul, I know you don't need to know any of this, but let me explain. As you can see, I am an overclocker, which means when I am overclocking, I continually make changes to bios. Sometimes you set the wrong thing and there is no way it will boot into Windows and sometimes even post. What we do is reset CMOS, which you just did by removing the battery, enter bios and set everything to default values. Then we can boot into Windows and make sure we are stable by running all the tests we have had you run. Then we can go back and start again from default settings. That is why I always set defaults or optimized defaults, if that is there. It is the Motherboard's Manufacturer's settings that they believe will make the safest settings for the board to run properly. Wise overclockers know the risks and are willing to take them. Others, like you, want the safest settings to make your computer run well. That is what defaults is for.

Paul, I don't see any BIOS updates that say for Windows 7. The drivers may be different, but not the BIOS as far as I can tell. The link you gave opened up to Windows 7 32 bit, you have 64 bit.

Sorry guys - The check box in the link has a 64bit option which has a P7H55-M LX BIOS 0406 download. Now, confusingly, my board has both P7h55-e and P7H55-M stickers (although it shows as p7H55-E in the bios!) I just hoped that different bios might be something of use. But I've never flashed a bios before and take you advice @layback bear about being very cautious!!

Memtest86 ran for 11 passes with no errors. The bios won't find the hard drive with AHCI selected. Once I went back to IDE it booted the 7 hard drive normally, but it crashed winthin minutes....

One suggestion - my son is running almost exactly the same spec pc (same board and hard drive) but his was professionally built and has ran 7 from the start. I thought to go through his bios and cross check setting with mine? Sounds pretty noob but I thought it might just throw something up!!

Sorry I just found the linky in the post. I need more coffee.
Yes 32 and 64 are completely different bios from your link.
Wrong bios is surly a road we don't want to go down.

DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS.

Have you ever flashed the bios on this system??

No - I've never really touched the bios up until now and certainly never flashed it so would need some help here!

But do you think the bios could be the culprit and what should I do from here?

Also, I believe you have CPUz installed, take a screenshot of the mainboard tab and post it here. While you are at it, post shots of the CPU, memory and SPD tabs. On the SPD tabs you can select the dim slots from the drop down in the upper left. Just the ones with ram installed.

Good idea Steve. Two sources is always better.
So far the only difference between the Specce and the Asus site is the date of the bois.

Jack, it seemed the biggest question in his mind was what model board he has. CPUz should show that. I couldn't find the exact version he has listed on Asus site either. I believe Asus only lists the M and M LX.

Paul, is your board an Matx or an ATX? 9.6" X9.6" is ATX ( I believe for you Brits, that's 243.8mm X 243.8mm)

I don't know what the version X.0x means.

I think that is the revision number of the board. Sometimes they will revise the boards and change things around. If you recall the debacle Intel had when they released the P67 and had to recall them. The new 'fixed' boards were revision B3.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. It's an ATX board, well that's what the power supply is! It measures 24,5 x 24.5 cm

I've managed to get some shots - not enough time for screen grabs as it crashes within minutes, These are some pics of the windows 7 specs of the pc and some screen shots of the bios settings and the board stickers. Sorry about the quality and the strobing but hope this helps

I can try to run CPUz in XP - it will give the same board info

thanks

Paul
