I'm going to be building(teaching) a rig for my nephew. He is a gamer, so the rig will be for gaming and 15yo web browsing(porn jk). His words..."Must play games at High/Ultra settings".... He would like to keep the price around $1000.00us, under if possible. He will be using HDTV as a monitor so wont need that, but will be needing everything else.

If we could whittle it down to around a $1000.00us before shipping cost that would be perfect!

Below is what I have come up with so far. All from Newegg. Please have a look and give your opinion's. (and money saving ideas)

Thanks,
Jeep

I installed the stock 140mm case fan outside of case then installed the H70+ 1 of its 120mm fans inside case. Used the 2nd 120mm from the H70 to go in the Gpu tunnel.
230mm Front,200mm side,200mm top,120mm Gpu tunnel,120mm&140mm on H70.
The first thing that jumps out at me is the power supply.

OCZ is not near the top of the food chain.

750 watts is major overkill UNLESS you have plans for more than 1 graphics card.

Newegg.com - SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze 520W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
superior brand, modular, $70; saves you 50 bucks.

Newegg.com - XFX Core Edition PRO550W (P1-550S-XXB9) 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
made by Seasonic, $70

Newegg.com - SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM 550W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
$100;

If you insist on more than 700 watts:

Newegg.com - Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply
Manufactured by Seasonic; $100

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply
Manufactured by Seasonic; $105; $85 after rebate

Newegg.com - XFX Core Edition PRO750W (P1-750S-NLB9) 750W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
Manufactured by Seasonic; $110; $85 after rebate

I'd take any of the above rather than the OCZ.

I don't think there is any need to get a K processor if not overclocking. For that matter, you don't need a 3570 for gaming, but if it fits your budget, go ahead. If you want to get down to $1000, the CPU is a likely candidate, along with motherboard.

Good choice on the Samsung SSD; you might be able to get it cheaper on sale if you don't have to buy today. It's a luxury though if you need to get closer to $1000.

You could save a few bucks by moving down to 1600 or 1333 RAM with little consequence.

Apparently, you don't need to purchase Windows in that budget?

@ ignatzatsonic,

Good call on the psu. I checked with him and he will not be sli'ing. I'm so used to building my rigs I forget that some people don't need a build to be "overkill" at first. I'm always looking forward to my next upgrade!
I guess I got mixed up, because I could of sworn that OCZ's psu were made by Seasonic....maybe I mixed XFX & OCZ up. :o

Going with your suggestion: Newegg.com - SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze 520W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

I have updated the first post with it!!! Thanks

I'll dig into the Ram, Cpu, MB and see what else can be shaved off. I've never built a gaming only rig before. I might oc it for him, but if a non-k cpu will cut the price to where its needed it wont hurt to do so.

It will still be some time before buying, I know prices will change a bit with sales starting/ending.

Yes you are right he does not need to buy OS, his parents have a 7 pro sitting around. They bought it to upgrade their computer, but computer died and they bought a new pre-built.

Ditto on the PSU. I've got that one and I don't need it, plus some OCZs have a fan problem (mine did.)

HDD - I know a lot of people like the WD Black but you can find better deals.
Seagate 1TB 7200 SATA 6 - $84.99

In fact, I'd be patient on all this stuff because it's almost Nov. NewEgg has a Cyber Monday sale, plus good prices through the whole month and Dec. Everything always goes on sale. Like I'm clicking on the SSD you listed -it's at $89 right now. I'd jump all over that. HDDs will continue to go down for Christmas, from what I've been reading. I'm waiting to upgrade one my my HDDs.

Good luck- building is the way the best way to get exactly what you want and it's cheaper.

@ Colonel Travis,
Thanks for the info on psu, I already swapped it for the one in my last post and updated the first post.

I've got time so I will be watching sales, but ether way I've got to wait till nephew is ready to pull the trigger. I'll be re-checking prices when he is.

@Everyone,

How do these look for swapping out Cpu,Ram,MB to get the price down a bit??

Do you have some over-riding reason for liquid cooling??

The standard high quality cooler recommendation is Coolermaster Hyper 212 at circa $30. All you would need if you aren't trying to set overclocking records and it saves close to $50 off the top.

I'd get 1600 speed RAM from Crucial/Corsair/G Skill, whatever is on sale on the day of the buy; probably $35 to $40 for 2 x 4 GB, maybe a few bucks less.

If you can buy circa Black Friday, you may see some particularly good prices. Are you confining the buy to one big order, or smaller purchases over weeks?

Closed-loop liquid cooling:: (imo) I think they look better than a big air cooler, cool better, less stress on MB, no worries about Ram clearance..... with all that said If cutting it out to make budget/cheaper it can go. Could most likely get away with the stock one if need be, until if/when Nephew wants OC.

Ram:: yeah I think im going with 1600 Corsair listed above. ( It will be in the updated list I post in a few)

It will be around the end of Nov. if not later when he will be ready to buy/build, going to try for one big order but if the prices are wrong at the time it will be split into smaller orders.

Um well I didn't think the PSU was overkill what about later on if there is a second card or whatever added - the only thing I don't like the brand. Corsair for me and I have just got the HX 1050 for newy.

No probs jeepman I am only having one GPU myself at this time but I am just a bit wary these dasy after my Sandy bridge build which I ignored advice and went with cheaper options - i5 2500 and an H67 board and regretted it.
Anyway that PSU is real nice anyway.
Just as a matter of interest I use the Microsoft Sidewinder 6 keyboard and a Gigabyte M6900 Optical Gaming Mouse - real cost affective - $22 out here and at 3200DPI a great buy:)

If you want to shave off more, why not consider going with AMD? If you go with the FX series processors you can get close to the same performance as with the Intel but between the board and the CPU you will knock off close to $100. I don't think most people can tell the difference unless they are doing benchmark tests. I would keep the SSD because that is a very cheap way to get a noticeable boost in performance.

Point taken Parker but I find getting suitable RAM for AMD stuff really quite difficult - out here at least as most is getting to be geared towards Intel run builds.:)

Absolutely jeepman my son built a $3K AMD and it never did run right.

My test blast with the i5 3579K on that Asus P8Z77-V board after a small hitch went like a rocket:D
