OK...let's say you borrowed your friends PSU, say it's a 550 watt even 600 watt (better), say you plugged in everything correctly, even cleared out the BIOS and/or flashed the BIOS to the latest update.
If it still doesn't work, then yes, the board is done, return it, and exchange it for another one.
Also, if you built your computer on a carpet environment you may have shorted some sort of circuitry via a static discharge, and then for sure it's done.
Never build a computer or work on a carpet, big no no.

I had a similar issue with a Gigabyte board that took me some time before I got a different board. If it is of any help, here's what I was advised to do.

Visually inspect the board. Look for any bulging capacitors or any slight damage. If so, then return the board.

There could also be a short in the board that may cause the issue. Or accidental static electricity might have fried it. But with Texas humidity, it's not as likely.
I know this well as I have worked with many boards in Texas, on/near carpet, and they still work.

Bottom line: exchange the board, or consider upgrading to a better one.

Greatly appreciate the help, everyone.

Returned the 400W, got a nice deal on a OCZ 700W, also exchanged the board for another one just like it. Installed both - does not work. It's either a bad CPU or bad RAM or yet another bad board. I'm not a computer tech so all I can do is go to the store again and replace, I have no clue where the screw up is. At least I didn't mail order this junk.

The person I quoted earlier said that the board had several poorly soldered transistors. It might be the CPU. Not exactly sure how to test that unless you know someone with the same or a similar CPU and doesn't mind letting you try it.

Booted, said it was starting Windows and then a few seconds later it conked out just like the Asus board. Black screen. I've tried 2 different PSUs, two different boards - it's got to be this 1055T chip. With both boards it starts to load Windows and then never loads again. I have no clue.

Out of curiosity, where did you buy the processor?

Better question? What type of cpu cooler do you use with the 1055T? Could be that its overheating in your current set up. I would invest in a decent cooler rather than using a stock or budget cooler with a 6-core.

Bought it at Microcenter. CPU doesn't turn on long enough to overheat. Everything just shuts down after a few seconds with this new board. Very frustrating because it started to load the first time I tried it. I don't know if the BIOS needs to be updated? Can't even get into the BIOS. If I can't figure this out tonight I'm gonna dump AMD.

I would suggest trying another AM2+ or AM3 processor in the board before giving up. If it weren't already close to 9pm (your time), I might suggest that you take the whole rig to microcenter (or frys) to test the processor to see if it or board are the culprit.

Starting to sound like a Ram problem some boards are picky about the Ram they will run with. Check the manufacturers site to see if they have a recommended Ram chart. Fabe

7 now locked and loaded, all seems to be well - RAM, CPU, temps, etc.
@#$%! Asus motherboards. Or mother @#$%! Asus boards.


This is what I ended up using, if anyone cares.
CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
Mobo - Gigabyte 890XA-UD3
Video - NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 because I got it for a steal, upgrade later.
PSU - OCZ 700W ModXStream
RAM - 4GB OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Gold

It ain't a Cadillac but it seems like one with the POS I've been using the past 4-5 years. Upgrades down the road will be a lot easier. I was really stuck with my older system, although I cannibalized two HDDs and a DVD for the new system.
