Looking through your window
After 5 days of trying to make a domain using Windows Server 2008 and getting a DNS error I cracked it and my other laptop could join my domain.

But what goes around comes around.

I made an account in Active Directory Users and Computers and made it a standard user but in the log on screen I entered the credentials I get an error.

"You cannot log on using this method please contact you local administrator" or something like that.

Can you help me with this error?

Welcome Pie015 to the windows 7 forums.

Have you set up the ad permissions for "users" to be able to log onto the server from remote?

What groups have you added "users" to..

Pie015, this is the fastest way for a user to not get answers to their
questions by using thb bump routine to advance their question.

I understand why you want an answer but have you read any information
on Active Directory settings for server 2008?

Look at the groups that you can include to the users profile in AD.
NOT DOMAIN ADMINSTRATORS :(

Logging onto a server (via RDP) shouldn't be any different to logging onto pc. Remote Desktop/Access to be enabled, ideally AD groups added to the local Administrator Group (on the server). Then in AD, add user account to those AD groups. This is just of the top of my head as i am not at work to confirm.
