new hdd, install woes, error 0x080042453 among others......

so i got my laptop's third hdd since may of this year... popped my 7 ultimate x64 disc in and proceeded to part my drive..... no dice. it acts like it parts, but nothing shows up... 936.5 gig unallocated, no changes..... try to install without parts, and i get the error in the title. id try to format if i could, but the function is greyed out. worse, it is my only computer-type device except for my phone... dunno what to do......

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Check it's condition.

Is the HD recognized in BIOS setup? Set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Then try creating an Active NTFS Primary partition from STep 2.2 of SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation from installer Command Line. Close command box, try Clean Install Windows 7

How do you plan to activate Win7?

sorry. forgot to add: w7 ult retail (pretty black box), disc is in perfect condition. would activate over internet. will give the directions a shot tomorrow. thanks.

Keep us posted. Fill in your System Specs or at least make/model in bottom left corner of your post.

If this is your 3rd Hard Drive since May of this year something isn't right with your system. Yes a HDD can fail at anytime but having 3 fail in such a short period leads me to think the system is causing it.

Having only one computer makes diagnostic a bit harder but I would find a friend that you can connect that drive to with a SATA to USB adapter and run the manufacturer diagnostic program on.

If it checks out OK then the system is the ROOT cause of these failures.
