New HDD Into Computer Problems

So i Just Bought a new Western Digital internal HDD to replace my faulty seagate
it came without a operating system installed onto it and i read somewhere that using the system restore cds would put one on. i did that and it sad somthing about not being able to install because the seagate drive was bigger then the western digital, and that there was no windows image or somthing along the lines.

anyone know what i can do to fix this and get a operating system installed onto my new drives. if you need to know some specs of the hdds ill go find them and put them here thanks.

i copied a 3disc set using the recovery disc maker thing for windows 7

Go ahead a fill out your System Specs for the machine from which you are presnetly using.

Please read and carry out following:
UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS



User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile (left-hand column, Edit System Spec

To gather info, use
Speccy - System Information - Free Download
or SIW or the System Info tool,
Use System Info to see your System Specs

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

I believe its either sticking or catching. it runs for about 10 maybe 15 mins tops and then you can hear it rev up then slow right back down and make a click noise. it does this 10 times app. and then blue screens boots back up and says operating system not found. I just filled out my specs so more help would be greatfull

Now, just to make sure I've got everything correct before I make a recommendation, then from the computer you are using,
then I need a snippet of Disk Management output.

Please read following carefully:
HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN is the key with the wavy flag.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo (this pops up a menu) followed by X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field. This is very important, otherwise, needed info is not visible.

Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save

Post the snapshot:
· Click on the paperclip icon in that row of icons at the top of the message box.
· BROWSE button. There are 5 choices.
· Navigate to the folder containing the snapshot.
· Click on the snapshot.
· OPEN
· UPLOAD button which is adjacent to the 5th BROWSE button.
· Close the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS window.
· Position the cursor at the spot in the message where you want the
snapshot to appear.
· Click on the PaperClip again.
· Click on the file which you want to insert
· Attach code will be inserted into your message.

i just want to be able to use my new hdd i got but im unalbe to install a operating system onto it therefore unable to fully boot my computer

That's what I thought but wanted to be sure.

I've been up all nite and am going to sleep for 1-2 hours and will get back to you. Actually, procedure will be easy and painless. In the meantime, I suggest you turn off the old disk. We don't want it to give up the ghost quite yet.

Do you have an external USB drive? If yes, what is the capacity thereof and how much is free?

by external i think you mean one that you can plug into a usb port and remove then yes. i have a sandisk cruzer 8gbs

8 gb isn't going to begin to be enough.

Go to your local electronics/computer store, for example, Fry's and get yourself a 250 GB or more external USB drive. I've got to toshiba externals, one about 150 GB and the other about 300 GB.

There are only two types of people:
Those who make backups and
those who wish they had.

For example, we wouild be far further along with your problem if you had an external usb drive for backup purposes.

ok well none of my local stores sells them that big so ill have to go to the city to find one which probable wont be for atleast a couple days. soo ill get back to here later thanks for the help

If you have a BestBuy or a Target or Walmart or any of the big chain stores around then I suggest you check there.

Did you ever make Recovery Discs for your HP?

SIW (link in my sig) in the Hardware Section, System Summary will give you all the info that you will need when you visit the HP site since they will need the precise model, possibly serial number, etc.

i checked walmart they didnt have one that big bestbuy does have one for 50bucks or so its 250gb seagate idk if that would work but its the one ill prob end up getting

i do have the system recovery cds so im good in that area

according tgo the disk management snapshot you posted, then that should be sufficient.
