As I explained, failing to delete XP during install using the steps I gave you means it has placed its boot files on XP partition. In order to delete XP now other steps must be taken for Win7 to remain bootable.

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map using Snipping Tool in Start Menu and we will give you the steps.

Would have been a lot easier to delete XP in one step which I gave you above.

Well right, doing it that way you should have your boot files in place. Hope that the upgrade disk finds the old install and you are able to activate. Good luck to you with your install:D

Good to see you have it all sorted; the format, create, delete option is present at this dialog box during the installation process, click "Drive Options (advanced)" when it's presented.

Bare Foot Kid,
It looks like I missed that small detail. I restarted the computer after some updates and I didn't have to choose between OSs. Thanks for all the help every one. Hopefully this solved the problem.
Good news then Runner

myzr7,
"are you activated then?" As far as I know I am. I haven't seen a notice saying I need to activate. Where would the notice be if it's not activated?
start/right click computer/properties
bottem of page will say activated or need to activate

No don't do that, just install Windows 7 again over itself, when presented with this screen click upgrade and add the key.

Even when you decided to start over to do it correctly deleting XP, you still couldn't follow these simple steps?

If you've decided not to Dual Boot with XP, boot the Win7 DVD, select Custom install then use Drive Options (shown in red box below) to Delete all partitions, create New one(s) as you wish, then Format each before installing to first partition.

The Win7 installer will scan the HD during bootup to see XP and allow use of the Upgrade version key upfront or later as you wish.

How much more specific can I be, and with a picture?

Bare Foot Kid,
So now I have this question, when I do the upgrade do I enter the key or wait until later?

If you are going to do a clean install without entering a key; then an upgrade over the first install to enter a key so it will activate.

Do the clean first, no key

Then the upgrade with the key
