Yep mine isn't like that, it has to have the DHCP computer name and the Mac address right next to each other. Maybe a bit more secure this way who knows. I'm glad you brought all this to my attention. Seems like it's one of those forgotton features that might actually be useful. This router kicks ass for me, really works well, 10/100/1000 potential on both the LAN and WAN. If only I had more gigabyte machines...

Hey. Just to clarify, I didnt have Mac turned on by default. I had both turned on and I turned the MAC security on myself and typed in all of the specific mac addresses in too. I just thought it would be more secure if I had both the WPA key + Mac filtering on.

Hi npttrs sorry we hijacked your thread Honestly, I wouldn't worry about MAC filtering. Use a strong WPA password (not in the dictionary) anyone who can crack that will be able to get around your MAC filtering

Yeah no problem. Someone was wondering why I had MAC set up as default, but just clarifying that it wasnt a default setting. Anyways you guys can discuss whatever you want here since my issue is fixed

Ok thanks for pointing that out, I figured there was no way the MAC filtering would be turned on by default because it would only lead to problems such as you experiance. It would also be easy to forget it was turned on I imagine.

I still think it's useful as a secondary security layer besides WPA-2, especially when it has has the requirement to add a DHCP User name in order to assign an IP. Thanks for reporting back in npttrs.
