...I do think that Microsoft could give more details as to what the patches relate to, not least a little more openly in relation to the W10 nagware patches. But also with the optional updates generally where some knowledge of the patches is required if users are to be able to decide whether or not to install them.

MS will never do that since more people would then opt out of the nagware Trojans MS has been repeatedly foisting on us.

Seffrid wanted to tell more about those Optional updates that are coming through WU. MS gives knowledge base article before every patch in their bulletins, but you have to do an extra step to read all about. Even with that your not really informed and most of the time you'll have to dig it yourself, the plot (if one there is!).

It seems lately that, the more an update has to do with being a Win 10 nagware Trojan or spyware, the vaguer the description becomes when you go to MS' website. It's borderline fraud.

I've been bothered by this as well. The descriptions that MS provides for their updates are often close to meaningless.

I can't trust a company that does not fully disclose what they want to install and why.

It's like if you went to an auto mechanic and they tell you they want to instal something new in your vehicle to "fix an issue", but they won't tell you what the issue really is, or what they are installing.

Is anyone keeping an up-to-date list of which Windows Updates NOT to install, and why not to install each item on that list?

The ONLY one with the nag is 3035583 - the rest are irrelevant.

I installed 17 important updates but excluded KB3070102 for the moment based on the experiences mentioned above. A couple of reboots but they appear to be ok at this stage. I'm excluding optionals now but I'm not sure how sound this is. As I've said before I always do a system image before any monthly update now.

The others are spyware or preps for the nagware and eventual download and installation of Win 10. I f one doesn't want Win 10, you don't need or want any of them.

I'd say the Optional updates are irrelevant
It's when M$ reclassifies them makes them fishy
Then you get to the actual descriptions on the kb's page

What pisses me off the most is MS classifying an update as important when it's only important if you want Win 10 .

I was curious to know, if this update kb3079904 is safe to install. Microsoft just released this update a few days ago.
I really haven't been installing updates for windows as of late. Because i don't know which ones are safe and buggy.

It`s fine.

Always read what an update is for before installing it, if you don`t think you need it, don`t install it.

I only install security updates , i wouldn't skip those.
