Hi all,

I'm usually pretty cluey with most tech things but this one has me stumped!

I have just built a new PC (so a fresh install) but it BSOD's at shutdown every single time! This happens right after it is about to turn off, so after the logout. Happens even if I reboot or turn off from login screen.

Code:
STOP: 0x000007E - usbhub.sys

I've tried unplugging/removing various bits of hardware and all usb devices: no luck

Software Specs:
  • Fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit professional edition +SP1 - Fully patched
  • Latest drivers for motherboard/chipset soundcard and gfx

HardwareSpecs:
  • Intel 2600k CPU - Stock speed
  • 8GB (4x2) Kingston HyperX DDRIII 2000MHz RAM
  • Asus P8Z68-V LX Motherboard - Latest Bios: 0703
  • WD Velociraptor 300GB HDD
  • Gainward GTX570 GLH Edition Graphics card
  • Antec Signature Series SG-850 PSU (850W)
  • Asus Xonar Essence ST Soundcard
  • Corsair Obsidian 800D Case
  • Cardreader/DVDRW/Alphacool LCD
  • EK/ST/XSPC Watercooling

This is really quite annoying! Any idea guys?
Thanks kindly.
M.

FIXED - How I fixed this issue DETAILS:
1. Go here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb-win32/files/libusb-win32-releases/1.2.5.0/
2. Extract libusb-win32-bin-1.2.4.9 > BIN > AMD64 > libusb0.sys and libusb0.dll
3. Place libusb0.sys in c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
4. Place libusb0.dll in c:\WINDOWS\system32
5. Restart (It will bsod the first restart as the old drivers are loaded) Restart again and test

Thanks to zigzag3143 for the assistance! Rep'd

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

It is almost impossible to spot trends from a single DMP file so if you have more than one please upload them. If you only have one please wait until the computer crashes again then upload both.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

EDIT I can also provide a full file: not sure if that will be a privacy issue on an open forum though? Not sure what MS dump files do and dont contain?

these were Related to libusb0.sys LibUSB-Win32 - Kernel Driver from sourceforge.net Remove unless absolutely necessary. Yours is from 2006. If you cant remove it you will need to update it.

Legend mate. Not sure what would have installed these? I dont actively remember installing any sourceforge USB drivers :O is there an easy way of isolating where they came from/what they might be related to?

You can prevent them from loading by renaming it to libusb0.sys to libUSB0.bak.

You can google it to find out what uses it.

OK update: I have installed from here:
libusb-win32 - Browse /libusb-win32-releases/1.2.5.0 at SourceForge.net

a new libusb0.sys file

Testing now...

FIXED: See first post edit for details

No idea. Never figured that out. I'm guessing it was installed as part of my motherboard drivers? Either way it seems pretty closely linked!

Also: what do you view those dump files with? They come out mostly as garbage for me when I view them with wordpad or notepad...

The gold standard for analysis is called WinDeBugger.
