Here ,I go again

Since I installed a second graphic card
when i am gaming for a while the PC shuts off completly

when i went looking for a xfire set up i calculated my psu usage and all and it runs

Mind you this has happend twice with the heater on so i am thinking the heater plus the gaming psu shut down from heat

but looking at my temps after i had to wait like 5 mins for it to relax and come on and write the thread this is what i got

I either want some kind of reasurance it is just the heater and the gaming causeing the shut down

I really dont want to spend on another PSU even though i could get a newer one no issue

This happened with Dead Island -heater on /Kane lynch dog days just now heater on /but been playing kane and lynch with the heater never did that before -and played most of the time no heater on

-and played most of the time no heater on

So it's crashed with the PC at load + the heater being turned on?

Use GPU-Z and tick the log to file option. That way you can see what the temps were at the time of the crash. A screenshot of idle temps won't help here.

Although it does initially sound like the PC + heater (and whatever is else is plugged in) may be drawing to much power.

Does it trip the circuit board (knocking out the heater as well) or is it just the PC turning off?

Just the PC turning off and having to wait a few minutes to get it on

I figure cooling off ,But tends to come back no issues upon comming back on

just windows didn't shut down properly but since turning it back on i played left4dead2 with heater going not as strong as before but it tolorated it

It's been on constantly after turning it back on with the heater in use

Maybe too much stress on the GPU'S ? ,I even did a clean dusting of the case which gave me the normal temps after start

Also the Gpu's did stay around 55-60 when comming back on but then went back down to 45 degrees

Also is it normal for both Gpu's to be maxed in voltage ?

Another thing the fans get really fast and loud ........ that's giving me the idea it is heat related

Hmm. If the power point/board was overloading it would normally take everything with it. It's starting to appear that the heater being on is just coincidental.

Particularly since I re-read your OP and actually noticed...

That's why it's important to make sure that you use the 'log to file' option in GPU-Z. Instead of guessing what the temps were, the log file will show what the temps were.

Even if the PC doesn't crash, you can use the drop down arrows to show the MAX reading it hit after you play for a while (highlighted in the pic below)

Gpu.PNG

Also is this your PSU? (I can't find any with a 140mm fan)

eXtreme Power Plus 700W - Cooler Master

If it is, then it should be adequate to power both cards

ati-1.gif

Your PSU has 52 amps for the 12v rail, 6870 CF needs 38, so you're fine there.

Maybe too much stress on the GPU'S ?
It's unlikely it's the GPU's themselves that are being stressed too much (unless it is a heat issue )

Also is it normal for both Gpu's to be maxed in voltage ?
The 12V in the screenshot is the what the PSU's 12V is being reported as. That's normal :)

The voltage for the GPU's are the one below it, the VDDC.

Another thing the fans get really fast and loud ........ that's giving me the idea it is heat related
With both cards at load, it's quite normal for the fans to be loud as there will be a higher temp than before (especially on the top card). Whether or not it's because it's overheating is why you need to know what temps they are actually reaching at the time.

Once you know that, you'll have a clearer idea which direction to look at.

At the moment I wouldn't be rushing out to buy a new PSU until you've eliminated heat, or too much power being drawn from the socket with the heater on as well.

It is the Heat ,I just played dead island for atleast 20 to 30 min i took a oppertunity to check my temps they were reaching 90c at one point then backed to 88-85 -before that I was playing left4dead for a hour no issue

So im assuming the game rev'ed my cards up and the heater being on made it shut down pretty much the cards got darn hot :zip:

90c isn't too bad (not great) but not shutdown territory. However the added temp may have pushed it over the edge. Keep an eye on it.

Ok here's the deal

My video card was reaching high temps on idle for some reason

I decided to update the 12.1 driver after update the GPU seems to calms down to normal 45 c idle temps but during game play no heater anything Deadisland froze this time

No system shut down im starting to think my fears of CF is comming true some games just can't take the situation

Im wondering anyone else with CF in certain games namely Dead island for now
