New RAID Array and Clean Install Win7HP-Help with RAID Driver Install

Hi,

Thanks for all the help and your own work.

With my GA-EP45_UD3R Rev 1.1 Bios Version F6, Window 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Installed perfectly by itself on a SATA RAID (1) Array.

No requests for any SATA Driver and it recognized the RAID (1) Array without a problem.

Thanks again to all who helped solve this for me on the Gigabyte Community Form, TweakTown Forum, Seven Forum and Toms Hardware Forum (Storage).

No thanks to INTEL who never replied.

I am preparing to do the same thing on a GA-EP35-DS3P (rev 2.1). I think my situation is similar. I have two brand new 128Gb ssd's that I formatted using Partition Magic and built into an RAID1 using Intel's Rapid Storage Technology software. As I created the RAID1 I noticed a comment that said I needed to 'partition' the array. Will the Win7 install process do this for me?

At one point, Gregrocker says "Is there a specific reason you want RAID, which Windows 7 doesn't much like?" Have you experienced any issues that tell you that Win7 does not like RAID? RAID1 has made my life much easier several times in the last 6 years when drives failed. All I needed to do was to format the drive and physically install it and the Intel software recreated a pair of mirror images. In one case it was the system drive. It was much easier not to have to reinstall the OS and all my programs again, thank you.


Intel now have a forum system. The response times seem slower than on some others. Time will tell.

I would not mention that Win7 doesn't much like RAID if we had not seen hundreds of cases here since beta where Win7 has problems with RAID, mainly in Win7 installation and repair. I am glad it's worked for you. I would also save regular backups of System image and data as a secondary method of backup.

Thanks for the prompt reply and clarification.

I added to Iaopa's thread from a year ago. I've not yet tried the installation. I'm working on getting up the nerve. Believe me, it gets harder with time as my 74+ years attest.

I promise to learn about System Image backups once this task is done. I will be pleased if it is a process that can be automated or done quickly, preferably multiple times each day, perhaps saving a few iterations before overwriting that last. Also, I trust that they occupy less space than the original files.

Has anyone had a bad experience with the current release of Win7 x64 and RAID1? I am here to be taught.
