Trying to decide what fan to get since these replacements i got are of poor quality... Very untrustworthy seller. so i'm not buying anything from that seller anymore..
Its the next day. Fan still chugging along but slowly and poorly like expected.. Almost no airflow. At twice its rated voltage i doubt its even at 4,000RPM range yet.
the magnet on it seems too weak and bulky/heavy. And the metalic strips that go with the coils are about half the height they should be... Needs an extra 1 link in the chain.
Very thin wires too. Perhaps too thin. and the magnetic field on the magnets is also probably out of wack. With very little strength the fan does not snap to any particular position when not running.. And it stays wherever it stops at.
My 120mm case fan moves exceedingly freely and stops at a magnetic field point. instead of just slowing to a stop.
40mm replacement fan not spinning very freely and makes a bit of a plasticy scratchy sound when you spin it with your fingers slowly. or as it comes to a stop or spins slowly
A 9,000RPM fan gives me lots of room to find the right balance of speed noise and cooling i think..
Do you think i should go for it?

For now the 120mm fan is duct taped to the inside of the grill side of the case
(and with the help of some jumper wires from a breadboard) was able to sneakily add the fan to the plug of fan header by poking them into the same places and combining the jumper wires into the 40mm fan plug and the 120mm fan plug. Almost perfect fit. then wrapped in electrical tape to be hidden.
It runs reasonably cool and quiet for now. Though i'd still like a better fan than the chinese 40mm one. Might get it on the 1st.

I've thought of the hot glue gun idea. but it'd be a hugeeee mess to clean up later... lol and for some reason it peels off really easily... it'd probably vibrate loose... the tape is working great though. I put 4 pieces on before taping it on so the tape has a good surface to stick to and has less vibration noise. then i taped over the 4 edges and it just works... Originally I was thinking of using black-colored twist ties!
I agree with your sig though about windows 7 Runs minecraft faster with aero glass off than if i ran minecraft on windows 10 or 8 at all.. About 30FPS difference! sometimes probably more.. You can't disable aero on windows 10 without going through a huge process of suspending winlogon and stuff. and its barely any better.
New fan ordered. 3pin 40mm 9000RPM hope its good arriving on april 4th maybe! Hurray for free shipping

Glad to see you got that sorted out. I have another project tonight. The wife's raid cage just got delivered. I'm going to have to do a little "customization" myself with this and I don't think duct tape is gonna do the trick.

New fan Arrived!! Runs correctly at its rated 9,000 RPM literally on the dot (in speedfan it showed precisely 9,000) and blows a ton of air! even at the slowest speed it still blows lots of good air. (Has a sharp cut-off just below 4-5V) but is quiet at the lowest speed and still blows plenty of air to keep my computer cool.. it really ramps up at full speed too. like a mini hair dryer. and theres no vibrational noise or rattling. Speedfan also correctly can register the RPM and control the fan speed without an issue! Great fan! Might buy more of these in the future if I ever need to.
Might need longer screws though... Mine didn't fully reach so I had to go back to the idea of using tape (electrical tape was the right size) and it has no problems.

Got it today and it's working excellent. Running right to it's rated RPM and even exceeding it a little (If I put my hand over it with it on a flat surface it shoots up to almost 10,000 RPM)
Otherwise at idle of 45% fan speed its silent.
Only starts to become audible after 4500 RPM
I notice when changing speed in speedfan manually from 45% to 100% directly.. It takes 10-15 seconds for the fan to slowly ramp up to full speed.. Is that hard coded into the fan control circuit? Since nothing I do can seem to change that..
just found out the tach wire for those junk chinese fans isn't even soldered to any components! its just an open circuit wire! The circuit board has places for a resistor to use the tach wire but its not on any of the 3 chinese fans... Pretty pointless to have a tach wire with no tach output at all..
At least the new fan I got works flawlessly..
Even waaay down to super low speeds where you can watch the blades rotate around.. And it can whip up to 9,000 RPM easily.

There is a setting\tick box that causes the fan speeds to ramp up a specific number of RPM's per (5?) seconds if I remember. I can state that the Noctua's in my system do that for sure under load as there is an audible rise in the fan speed "noise" (and resultant on screen outputs via Rainmeter) to back this up. Will look for you in the morning to see if I can narrow it down but from memory it was in the initial set up of the individual fans from memory (pub impaired)!

I tried setting the delta setting to max.. and smallest value... and no difference? It still ramps up or down VERY slowly.... Almost too slow to cool my CPU in time..
With it set to manual and disabled automatic.. Changing between 100% fan speed and 0% fan speed directly by inputting the numbers takes forever.. It takes ages to slow down or speed up..
Is this just part of how the computer fan controller reacts to an input change?
When my computer boots up at first. the fan ramps up to full for a split second then goes straight to idle speed. so I know it CAN adjust quickly... but with speedfan it adjusts veery slowly. regardless of delta value or anything..
Using a potentiometer with a transistor and resistor. I can adjust the fan speed instantly as soon as i turn the knob. so its got to be speedfan or the computer board/fan controller circuit..

Ive tried every fan control tab that exists. and I have used fan control tab (the advanced fan control one?) and its pretty slow to speed up.. even with GPU-Z render test and prime95 running at the same time... Takes several seconds to even hear it audibly increase in speed...
and oh boy do i have aggressive settings chosen... Even tried dragging the points to 100% fan speed after 39*C and it is still painfully slow to adjust regardless of delta setting..
Tried turning off automatic control and changing back and forth between 45% and 100% in the main window... Still super slow to adjust...
When I change it from software controlled to smart guardian.. the fan wavers between 1,000RPM and 2400RPM in a balancing act slowly... regardless of temperature..
If I have it in smart mode and put my finger to stop the fan for even a second.. and let go. it instantly speeds up. but the same does not happen in automatic=software mode it just slowly goes between whatever it tries to change too..
Ive tried setting the delta from 15% 1% 99% 50% 25% and have almost no difference in how fast the fan speeds up at all..
Tried changing between "sum of speeds" and "max of speeds" with no difference really either..
Also tried using the generic "speeds tab fan settings instead of the advanced fan control settings and it still is slow to adjust to the specified value shown in speedfan.

I can change the fan speed manually. it works. but is very slow to adjust to what i specify. though it does work. such as disabling automatic fan control checkbox and manually inputting a fan speed%
No bios options like overclocking. FSB. Fan. memory. GPU or anything. generic acer bios too. Barely any temperature information.. Only fan RPM listed. Not adjustable in any way from the bios. no setting. Only "Smart fan" or "Disable(something)" but neither have any affect on fan speed or fan control..
