Sounds promising but still see the need for a storage device otherwise zero chance I'm going to trust my alarm clock back up to radio waves. "Boss there was an inversion layer that interfered with my alarm clock and that's why I'm late". It's like wind energy or solar, if you don't capture it to a storage cell what do you do when the wind stops or the sun goes down.

Don't use that word genius loosely. To me a genius is someone who has multiple inventions that still in use today. People today are just inventing crap. Just look at all those Infomercials lol.

Why don't they just fit larger batteries into our mobile devices - I'm sure we could cope with some of them being slightly larger. I mean a few weeks worth is a great improvement over a few days worth.

For what it's worth, I'm using a Logitech solar-powered keyboard and it has performed admirably even in cloudy conditions.

Energy from known sources (solar, heat, water, fuel, etc), sent or stored in known type of system is undeniable.
Yeah. I lately hear discussion about creating device to transmit energy (wireless energy). Sounds possible and promising as this far an encrypted huge digital data can be transferred using certain frequency carriers. But electricity is no data, it's an energy.
Hope the transmissions won't go into the wrong receivers.

It's a nice concept but remember all the people who developed neurological issues after living near high tension power lines for a few years.....just saying.

I'm not sure if it was real, a hoax or simply fiction, but I vaguely recall a story about a person who created a huge metallic net to capture radio waves to power his entire farm. As that story went, it worked very well, but sapped the energy enough to cause a blackout of signal on the backside of his net.

Whether this was simply a tale, or an actual account, it still raises a question in my mind...if all batteries were replaced in this fashion, would it not drain the "waste" RF signals that it utilizes, and have an adverse effect on the purpose that they are designed for?

RFID is for the purpose of using a specific RF signal that is transmitted for specific purpose. From what I understand, this technology uses any RF signal within the "medium wave frequencies". Not sure what is included in that frequency range.

it's the same principle though isn't it? I mean the rfid is essentially 'powered' by the radio frequency and then sends it's response.

Well, I suspect the technology could make items like laptops cordless... that sort of thing, not sure it's going to be of high enough power to safely induct more than a few watts without any risk to human health...
