Ok... I got my laptop like a year and a half ago and never had any performance issues till date. Few weeks ago, my comp went batshit crazy and would freeze and ridiculously slowdown all of a sudden. Even Web pages on chrome won't load. My first impression was like umm.. Duh it's a virus. Turns out it wasn't. Worse it won't shutdown... it took forever to do so, so I had to manually shutdown after which it won't startup. It went onto repair mode (whee that didn't work) and after like ages it started up again. This happened a couple of times till I had to reformat the drive. Nooooow after it started working fine after reinstalling every driver and programme back again... Windows 7 installed like 200 "important" updates. And all hells broken loose again with the same problems. Any idea what's causing this??
I'm sooooooooooo regretting my decision of not buying a mac. How do I undo what's been done??

Do a system restore back to a date before Windows updates.

Then, download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

After rebooting, let us know if the computer is running normal again. Also, is your main browser Chrome?

Thnx.... I will give it a try in the morning and let you know how things go. I Uninstalled a few random recent updates though i doubt it'd do any good. Incidentally my main browser is chrome. Why do you ask? I do believe that the issues started with chrome freezing over followed by my hardisk leading to complete startup and shutdown failure. Either way I'll have a look see. Thnx...

Umm....I installed the temp file cleaner, like you mentioned. It seems to run alright. But the thing is, these hangups begin all of a sudden like asthma attacks. I can never be sure of the problems completely gone. Soooo....heres hoping it doesnt happen again....will keep my fingers crossed...

Sorry, I missed your replies!!

Let's get rid of some possibly bundled adware ...
Download AdWareCleaner AdwCleaner Download to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.
