New way to find useful information fast on Google Search

Imagine you’re remodeling your kitchen, and you want information about how quartz compares to granite for your new countertops. Sure, Google can tell you what quartz and granite are, but that’s perhaps not what you had in mind. Chances are you’re hoping to learn more about the differences in cost, benefits, and durability of each, and may be looking for guidance on other subtopics to explore.

For these types of queries, we’re introducing a new way to get you to relevant information fast and help you get a glimpse of multiple aspects of a topic with a single search.

Now when you search for something like [quartz vs. granite], you’ll see a panel with a set of relevant subtopics to explore. Hmm ... quartz is a mineral SiO2, silica. Common, found in a wide variety of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The main mineral constituent of sands, opals and Silicon Valley. Hardness 7, erosion and weathering resistant.


Granite is an igneous rock composed of a number of minerals in crystalline form, solidified out of a cooling igneous melt. A prime constituent is the mineral quartz. Other minerals include the feldspars (notably plagioclase and orthoclase), mica. If fresh granite is not sealed, it weathers quite nicely to a fertile soil.


For visual appeal, granite sealed against weathering is far more striking than plain quartz as the mineral assemblage is quite rich in texture and colour.
