Is this possible? The Coolscan has a 50 pin SCSI-1 cable. I can't seem to find a SCSI card that will run on a 64-bit system and also take that plug. They all take Ultra 50 pin.

Currently installed is the Adaptec AHA-2940 PCI, which I was using on the x86 XP system installed prior to the upgrade to W7 64. That card will not install because there are no 64 bit drivers available.

And, no, I can't afford a new scanner...

I have an Adaptec 39160 that I haven't installed. If I get a female 50 pin SCSI-1 to male 68 pin VHDCI adapter (if such a thing exists), it should work, yes?

OK, so I'm an idiot- I didn't realize I could just buy a new cable...

Hi,
what kind of connection does the Coolscan III have? Centronics 50-pin? Male or female? A female 50-pin to male 68-pin did the job? What kind of SCSI-card did you finally use?
I need to upgrade a PC for a friend and I have to search for a new SCSI-card and possibly for a new cable. The problem is I don't have the scanner in front of me and my friend cannot explain what kind of connection the scanner uses...
Thank you in advance

I use the Adaptec 39160 Ultra160 card with a 50 to 68 pin cable. Works perfectly.

Thank you very much for your quick response. I will try to find the card you mentioned.
But first I will try one of the two PCI-SCSI cards that I already own, a Tekram DC-310/310U and an Adaptec 2904 (both of them with a 50-pin external connection). The problem is that I do not know the type of cable that I need. The card-side-end is clear, but the other end of the cable isn't, because I don't have the scanner in front of me.
When I have the cable, I will try installing the scanner (with XP or 7, I don't know yet), and then I will follow the steps described in the post you send (thank you for the link). But I'm not so far yet...

You need a 50 pin male to fit the scanner. Any 64-bit card should work, I would think.

Centronics 50-pin male, I suppose. Thank you very much.
