Has anyone tried to run this scanner under Windows 7 64 bit? The Nikon website was unclear as to whether it is compatible. Windows Compatability center lists it as compatible.

I have a Coolscan 9000 with W7 64 home version. I am using VueScan with no problems. It is a great scanner software. If all fails, try that.

Did you see my post with the link on using your scanner without having to use Vuescan?

Just in case :)

Nikon Scan 4.0.3

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and have my Coolscan 5000 working with the Vuescan driver. Vuescan's software works perfectly with the scanner but Nikon Scan 4.0.3 scans the first slide and then crashes. It doesn't seem to be a driver issue but a Nikon Scan problem (I know v4.0.3 is supposed to be only for Vista). Anyone got any ideas?

Hi DACW,

You may want to look at this post... Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64

Thanks sygnus. Yes, I tried that several times but didn't work for me. However, just made one last try and removed both Nikon Scan and Vuescan, reinstalled Nikon Scan with no driver then reinstalled the slightly more recent release of Vuescan. Presto everything works now. Curious, but happy!

Thanks. Yes, I tried that several times but it didn't work for me. Latest attempt was to remove both Vuescan and Nikon Scan. Re-install Nikon Scan with no drivers and then install Vuescan again (very latest version) and it automatically did the driver install. Now Nikon Scan works with tiff file saving and falls over saving jpegs. Very odd. I think I'll stay with Vuescan!

What's not working for you?

And I specifically stated that Vuescan needed to be completely removed before trying those procedures.

Also, did you create your .inf file from here? Getting a Nikon Scanner to Run on 64-bit Vista - Photo Tips @ Earthbound Light.

My Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED works great following the procedure. And if you read the link for the inf file, you'll see that it was originally created for the 5000, so...

But whatever works for you.

Peace.

Hi,
Specifically the browse from Unknown device in Device Manager just says it can't find the driver to install. I followed the instructiosn you gave religiously! The only difference I have is that my 5000 is running through USB so the dll file mentioned lives in ScanUSB not Scan1394. Would that require changes in the scanners.inf file? My reference to Vuescan was that after this didn't work I re-installed Vuescan and got the driver from there. But then Nikon Scan falls over when saving jpeg files, but for some reason it works OK saving tiffs. I'd prefer to have Nikon Scan working if I can.

Yeah.... there's a post about that here.... Unoffical Vista X64 driver of LS-8000ED/9000ED for Nikon Scan 4.03 - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum

Another follow-up to my own post ;- (Shawn Merrigan)

I have the LS-5000 and the LS-9000 both running on Windows 7 x64 RTM. I had to make a small edit to Steel's ini file, copying the LS-5000 into the [Models.ntamd64] section as follows....

...Otherwise, windows would not install the driver. With that change, the LS-5000 driver installed correctly. Both Vuescan and Nikonscan are working correctly, although I am still testing some of the more complicated batch scanning setups.

I'll see if I can fix it and send it to you.

Later.
