Hello all,

Forgive me, as I've seen so many similar topics to what I'm about to post, yet cannot seem to find a solution.

My Laptop is connected via HDMI to my Home theater receiver

I'm able to get video as well as audio but its only coming out in 2.0 stereo and not 5.1 surround.
When I go into control panel - sound - playback and I see the Digital Audio HDMI option, under supported formats I only have 2 channel stereo and I don't have any option for 5.1 surround or dolby digital or DTS (I see those under SPDIF via HP dock), but for HDMI its only 2 channel so when I come to test it, the front 2 speakers in my home thaeter can be tested and work fine, but surround speakers
option is dimmed out so I can't even test it
If I go into Device Manager to see my drivers, under sound I see:
- High Definition Audio Device
- IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

I've tried uninstalling them and installing the ATI HDMI driver from the REALTEK site but it would give me an error message that says "NO Driver supported for this etc etc" - I'm not even sure if thats the right driver or not?

My laptop specs are as follow:

HP DV7T-2000 (17.3 inch screen)
Windows 7
ATI mobility Radeon HD 4500 (with the HDMI which apparenlty is supposed to do 5.1)
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB Ram

OK I GOT IT TO WORK!!!!

Man, I was up until 5 am trying to figure this out.

First of all, I downloaded the ATI HDMI driver, which I couldn't install earlier, but when I RAN AS ADMINISTRATOR, it installed!

Restart

Right click on the sound icon on the bottom right, then playback devices.

choose HDMI, then click Configure, and change settings to 5.1 sound, test them (they should work).

then click on properties, advanced, change to 24 BIT 48,000 HZ

VOILA, True 5.1 surround!
