No audio through monitor speakers via HDMI

I purchased a new monitor and it looks great but I can't get the built-in speakers to function. The monitor has inputs for VGA, DVI, and HDMI and I currently have it connected to my video card via HDMI. The front panel audio jack is functioning and I am able to hear audio if I plug headphones in but unfortunately I don't have any external speakers. From the sound menu I have three playback options: Speakers, Realtek Digital Output, and my monitor. I would like to sort this problem out quickly so I can play some games without using earbuds.

You probably need to connect a Male / Male speaker cable from the computer output to the monitor input ;)

Saw this this on eBay for $2.60, but you could check, Amazon, NewEgg, & TigerDirect :)

Yes, but it has nothing useful besides a tech support number which I have already tried and will try again during their business hours if no other solution is found first.

As you have various optical/display port sound outputs >

Check your bios settings are set to sound out = HDMi

My asus board lets you choose SPDIF/HDMI sound output (hidden away in bios)
