No Administration Rights on Windows 7?

So i have just gotten windows 7 and i did a upgrade, kind of from windows xp and the windows.old folder. Now i tried installing Word but it wont let me because i dont have administrator rights. Yet when i go to control panel and users, it clearly says i am an administrator. Anyone know a solution or what is wrong?

Im not sure, but did you try right clicking the exe and running as admin?

Yes, and what do you mean running as admin? From my user list i only have myself and thats all i have. Right below my name also says administrator also.

This looks like yet another file security issue caused by an upgrade. Clean install ftw.

I have the same issue here I cant access folders and files.Ive spent hours in the security tag,but still havent got permission.. Its now so bad my second hardrivenow says access denied. Ive re installed a fresh copy,but after a while this problem returns. Tried to contact MS Support,but they want £46 what a laugh. Gone back to Win XP at the moment.

Yes, and what do you mean running as admin?

Just as he said above. You right click on the .exe file, and choose "run as admin".

If that doesn't work, then something could have gotten messed up with the upgrade, and your best bet is to back up your data to an external drive and do a fresh, clean install.

Try changing the owner of the root folder (C:\) to your user (Login) name. To do this...
1. Goto the Security tab of the Properties of C:\
2. Click Edit. If you don't see your name listed click Add
3. Type in your user name and click Check Names. Windows will then place your user name after the computer name in the box and underline it. Click OK This will take you back to the Security tab and you'll see your user name added to the box.
4. Check "Allow Full Control" in the lower box.
5. Windows will give you several errors saying "Access Denied" to several folders. OK through them. Then attempt to run your installation.
If that doesn't work then change the ownership of the drive to your user name by returning to the Security tab and click Advanced.
2. Click the Owner tab.
3. Click Edit.
4. Click your user name and click Apply.
5. Close out the security windows and run your install.

Thanks for the replies.
I have a purchased edition of Win7 Pro.
I have reinstalled several times and all seems ok.After a while got the same problem again. Have tried your fix TDmoove m8,but no good. Looking through the forums,it seems that this is some sort of bug within the Pro Edition. Ia I have said Ive been to MS problem page,but they want money to fix their own problem.
I paid £187.00 for this load of crap and if MS dont sort this out,I will be demanding a refund through Consumer advice. I need others who got same problem as me. We could all complain to trading standards. At the moment Im back on good old xp Cheers

Are all your data files backed up? ... if not, get all your personal stuff out of your system and onto a backup drive.

You cannot upgrade directly from XP to 7... what you did was install both OSs in the same partition. This is one of those "it's supposed to work, but really doesn't" deals that you come across from time to time.

Your best solution at this point is to reinstall Win7... and this time remove all partions, repartition and format your hard disk... what they call a "clean install"... removing all traces of the old OS. Read the installer screens, it actually tells you how to do this.

Then you can copy your data files back from your back drive and all should be better.
