No back button after viewing jpg

Hi all,
Small problem....hopefully a simple cure. If I open a web page, like viewing properties for example, and there is one main pic on the opening page and several smaller pics, if I click on one of those smaller ones a new page opens displaying the chosen pic but then I lose the back button, ie cannot return to the main page. I have to quit to google and start again. Any ideas welcome thanks.

In HTML code, this:

<a href="http://sevenforums.com">SevenForums</a>

opens the URL in the current browser window or tab. You will have a clickable back button. This, however:

<a href="http://sevenforums.com" [B]target="_blank"[/B]>SevenForums</a>

opens the URL in a new browser window or tab. You will NOT have a clickable back button.

Those photos you're clicking are probably coded to open in a new window. The main page should still be there, but may be behind other windows.

Sometimes, luckily not very often, the back button of a webpage does not work, or it is not visible. In these cases, you can press backspace on your keyboard, it works on any browser as a keyboard shortcut for 'back to previous page'.

Not sure what you mean about the HTML Walker.
I just went to a site where in the past I know I have viewed the main pic and clicked the smaller ones to enlarged view with no problem using the back button to quit back to the main pic and then back to the relevant home page.
The http address doesn't appear to have any "blank page" coding and no, the original page is not hidden anywhere. Not to worry, it's no big thing, just thought there may have been a simple remedy. Thanks again

No luck with the backspace button Kari.

If you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari or Lunascape browser, the backspace key most certainly works. Have not tested other browsers lately but IMO this feature is universal.

The only possible explanation is that images are opening in a new tab. Because the new tab has no previous page to show, the back button is grayed out, backspace can not take you back to something that does not exist. Simply close the tab, and you are back where you started, the original tab with the website with images.

Attached images show different tabs in Lunascape, Firefox and Internet Explorer. To close a tab, click the close button of it (X), or right click it and choose Close Tab from context menu.

I use Firefox, have tabbed browsing enabled and understand what you are saying but the back arrow is not greyed out and the smaller pics do not open in a different tab when left clicking them.
You rang a bell with tabs so I tried using the middle mouse button and sure enough, the tabs then appear and the back button works.
Something has changed though as I used to just left click through the whole process.

The HTML code I mentioned would be in the webpage's Source code (to view it, right click in an empty area of the page and select "View Page Source"), not in the URL.

Out of curiosity (should've asked this earlier, sorry) what is the website in question here?

By the way, Ctrl+left click has the same function in Firefox as middle mouse - in case that was part of the confusion at all.

Something has changed though as I used to just left click through the whole process.

It's also very possible the web designer simply changed the functionality of the links on the page!

Walker,
think you hit the button on the head regarding the web page changing. I tried it on a mate's comp and same thing. For interest we then searched and used the back page command on a few other pages and I had the same results (all OK) when I checked om my comp later.

Sure thing. If you're really feeling curious, you could try looking for a cached older version of the website in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to confirm the theory!
