No mouse, No keyboard, No USB's . I'm trying to save the computer

Hello to all...

I lost all USB ports. No mouse, No keyboard. I'm trying to save the computer.
I have Goggled it many times and get responses like "go into device manager".... Well, how? No keyboard or mouse.
I installed a Pci e USB 4 port card and it looked like Windows 7 automatically loaded the driver on startup, but it did not work.
I tried to load the included driver disk, but I got "press any key to continue" Again, No keyboard.
If I can somehow load the USB card driver I may be able to save my computer.

I was able to load a very old CD with Ubuntu operating system.
The keyboard and mouse worked on the new USB card, but not on the main computer ports.
With no knowledge on using Ubuntu, I failed to find a way to load a driver to Win 7.

I'm out of idea's. Any Suggestions?

Using Ubuntu, place the driver setup file under \ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
When you boot setup will be executed and your USB card will work.

USB ports may be disabled on BIOS. Did you try to reset BIOS removing the coin battery?

MHz, Thanks for the reply. I spent a couple of hours trying everything that I know. I switched hard drives to my original from my current SSD. Got the same problem and now 99% sure it's a motherboard hardware problem with the USB's. I have not tried removing the battery yet. I will.
If I can get the drivers loaded for the Pci e USB card I may be saved.

In Ubuntu I will try your method. I am able to navigate to \Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. But now I'm lost. How do I add the driver setup files there?

Did the USB card came with a driver for win 7?
If yes, is it a compressed executable file or *.sys+*.cat+*.inf?

Yes it did come with a disk, but I think it's for multiple systems and products.
Here is a photo of the contents.
I will further examine it and call Vantec Tech Support and find out which files are for win 7.

Did you tried Megahertz07 suggestion to remove cmos battery for a minute and put it back and boot up again? as he wrote in post #2
I have the same thought about BIOS...
if you have succeeded to overloaded and damage all usb ports on the motherboard, that's unique which rarely happens... some maybe but not all. So try the battery first and see if it works, that would be the fastest solution.

The CD, the folder name should has a relation to the hardware you bought.
What files you have inside a folder?

Does keyboard response on caps lock/num lock before boot (bios startup screen) If it does, then it's only windows drivers that is the problem, not the motherboard

In ubuntu you can find out what hardware you have.. your pci-e usb card..
Open terminal and type: lspci and enter.. that list pci devices... Or type: lsusb and enter.. that list usb devices

If you prefer graphical... open terminal and type: apt install hardinfo and enter.
that will install a hardware listing app.... to start it after install.. just type in terminal: hardinfo and enter.

Yes I was forced to take the step in March 2018 to linux.. so I had time to learn linux before win7 had EOL 2020... and I refuse to use win10spyware even under gun point. icnic: haha

The choice was apple or linux.. :huh: .... with apple, it is easier to learn from 30year of windows, but I had to replace all hardware... and that is expensive.... so the choice had to be linux :shock: ... I still really don't like some things about Linux.. some things is soooo 90s.. terminal commands and file hack.. poor GUI support.. but it is hundred times better then win10
I have win8.1 as dualboot, just in case I should need windows online. But I do run linux 99.9% as daily OS. and I still have win7 (dualboot) on four computers for offline work and 2008R2 on my server... i don't feeling 100% confident i can make the switch to linux on my server yet and get it to work exactly the same as it does now with 2008R2 on minimal downtime... So my server and all win7(or older) computers are blocked in pfSense for internet access due to EOL

First of all I have NO experience or knowledge of Ubuntu. I have only a very old CD with Ubuntu.

The new 4port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 card is a Vantec model UGT-pc341
The driver folder for it contains setup.exe & a .PDF user manual. (VANTEC UGT-PC341 USER MANUAL Pdf Download | ManualsLib)

I tried to explore the contents of the setup file on a separate computer and it started to install. I stopped it and below is a photo of what it was doing.

Just a newbie thought: If I can get that file from Vantec support, can I use it via Ubuntu to install? (C:\Users\don\AppData\Local\Temp\is-JOH8M.tmp\dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe)

Or maybe Install the driver on a different 7/64 computer and find the driver file? Again,just a newbie thought.

You can try my boot media which supports usb3.

The above media is best extracted to usb stick. You can use this to do it View attachment Usb7ice.zip

Boot from the usb stick you just created. It will boot to a desktop environment.

It contains dism++ ( shortcut is on the desktop) which you can point at the win7 installation.

To point dism++ at the win7 installation - click the win 7 installation in the top pane to highlight it in blue. Then click "open session"

In the left pane you will see UPDATES and DRIVERS.

First click UPDATES. Then click ADD and browse to the driverframework update windows6.1-kb2864202-x64.msu

Then click DRIVERS and then ADD and browse to the usb3 drivers folder which it recurses.View attachment usb3-win7x64-2021.zip

The attached zip file contains the windows6.1-kb2864202-x64.msu update and the XHCI and UASP drivers for win7x64

Probably unrelated, however, what caused my USB ports to not function was HeimdalSecurity Thor Premium Home settings -- one setting turned off the usb ports except for limited mouse activity.

note - you MUST click windows 7 installation in the top pane to highlight it in blue - then click open session. You can see that in the bottom picture
