Hi all,
first post but regular visitor to this usefull forum :D. But as usually posting starts when problems occurr :o.

I have used the tutorial on your site to alter the default startup location of the pinned exploer icon to computer like this:
Code:
%windir%\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

That worked ok until.... I used Windows 7 Manager 1.1.2.... :( I think at the step where you are able to cleanup useless files....... some less useless files were removed.... including all files of my custom location desktop and custom location outlook mail ... I have to say its nice working on a CLEAN desk.... all trashed files exceeded the trashcan size so.... most of them disappeared beyond recovery.
Not a real problem sinc emost of them can be fixed from elsewhee but....

PROBLEM: All pinnend shortcuts work except the explorer icon! When I remove the command line options /n etc the shortcut works. But if I add the options it fails. It only shows the highliht but notheing happens. Keyboard shortcut win-E works. Shortcut from startmenu does not work except if I select an earlier used location. It works.
The rather cryptic key for computer exists in the registry...
Even a restore point doen't solve my problem...

HELP! I don't want to do a reinstall.... and of course no system image yet....

Have you tried making a regular shortcut to the explorer and pinning that to the taskbar and startmenu? Right click on the desktop -> make new shortcut, browse to explorer.exe.

Make sure you first unpin/delete the broken ones.

Good luck

Yes I have tried that and sorry not being clear. I can make or pin open explorer to the taskbar but as soon as I add command switches it does not work anymore

I think we have to wait until Brink sees this thread.

He is the customization expert around here.

Just one tip.
Next time when your reg cleaner asks to back up the reg keys you are about to erase, say yes. :D

Tot ziens en succes.

Thanks I hope there will be a solution since I am puzzled.
Thanx for the regbackup tip...but actually.... I didn't get till that step since I noticed almost all desktop icons disappearing...... I bailed out. So I think no registry cleanup was done.
I will try reinstalling windows 7 manager (I was mad and trashed it) and see whether some of the other "tweaks" may be causing this problem..

There is a product called "Rollback Rx" put out by Horizon Systems that I use that will take a snapshot of the way your system is before you make changes (such as cleaning the registry) or anyother changes you make to your system. If those changes cause any problems you can revert back to what your system was before you made the changes. The program is not free but it has saved my bacon many times.

Hhhmmm I am happy that the problem is solved :D but by itself :sarc:...
I don't like that because now I don't know the cause and cannot fix it if it would occur again ...
But thanks for all help thus far.
