I had to use kill disk to get rid of a virus.Wiped the whole drive.I used the simple one pass, where it makes all 0s.Should I have selected the US_DOS method?I can restart from safe just fine.
During install, when it goes through the final process"windows is finishing installation".Screen shutsoff when it attempts to restart. But thats all that happens. After 20mins I decided to hold the power button to shutoff and startup.Ridiculous:rolleyes:.
Maybe this will help to.My bios is simple,It shows a "DOS" and "other" option somewhere.I didn't change it because I don't know what it would do.Also when I change the boot options to cd/dvd 1st,it will not boot automatically still. It will say please press any key to boot from cd for about 3-5secs.
I have ran the repair windows, but it finds nothing wrong.I thought maybe the disc was scratched in a bad spot, but it still looks new.My friend let me test it on his compaq CQ56.It installed and restarted just fine:shock:.
I have ran chkdsk and ran diagnostics on my HD,it is fine...no problems at all.
If I hold esc on boot it says:
System BIOS shadowed
Video BIOS shadowed. What does that mean?I seen no options in my bios about that.

Hello greenwizard.

Have a look through the information below, running the clean command then using the installer to create the partition(s) for the install may help and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

   Information

If there's anything you need to recover from the Hard Disk Drive have a look at the information in this tutorial linked below on how best to copy out that data to external media.
If not I suggest you run the clean command to over-write the Hard Disk Drive MBR and start the installation again from scratch.

1) To rule out HDD Master Boot Record format errors, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, it takes only seconds to complete; once the clean finishes, exit diskpart and use the Windows 7 installer to create and format a single 100GB partition for the installation.

If that doesn't work, after another clean, use diskpart to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to see if that works, use Step Two #2 in the SSD/HDD tutorial for reference.

:info:You can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

2) If you have ever had Linux installed to the HDD in any way, a simple clean command will not over-write the Grub boot-loader, you must use the full clean all command to completely over-write the Grub loader so Windows will install.

Thanks for helping me:)
I gave up.I guess I just have to get use to holding the power button to shutoff,& quickly press & hold power again right after to restart.I know the risks of doing that, but ahwell.Updates and drivers installed fine doing it that way.I think its either the MOBO or HD.I talked to a friend of mine and he said he can run a test on my HD with spinrite.
I heard that it is one of the best HD tools. If that too shows my HD is fine,I am going to check the mobo really good:(

I bought a brand new HD,same thing happend.Come to find out,I just had to disconnect the CMOS batt and hold the power down to drain.Put it back together, set time and date in bios. And success!Shutsdown and restarts like it should now.Wish I knew about that before,so many hours wasted lol.

Ok I believe I officially solved it!The cmos thing only would work one time, had to keep doing it.I went into my bios,I noticed a usb legacy support option. It was enabled,I disabled it & now it is doing fine!I use a external HD.Thats all I use for usb, sometimes a 1gb flash or a microsoft laser mouse.Idk what it means by legacy, maybe im on the right path(1.0,2.0,3.0).But I am very happy my laptop does shutdowns & restarts correctly now:cool: .Will I run into any problems with certain devices I use on usb since I disabled legacy?
