Hello, I've read a few of the other posts but haven't been able to get it to work on mine yet. I'm getting the "no signed drivers were found" error when trying to install windows 7 64 bit on my new build. I don't have an old one to format the hard drive and partition it on. So my question is can I build a partition outside of the install or inside of the install? When I switch to ACHI(AHCI) which every one it is, and I go into advanced installation it gives me the option for new partition but there are 0 MB available to do this with. I've put my comp specs into my profile. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. When my old desktop crashed I had a working laptop so I has been years since I've had a 2nd desktop to work with.

Put the Dvd in the computer when you get to the screen where it asks you where you want to install Windows . Hold down Shift and press F10 . You will then have a command prompt Window and type in these commands

   Note
Press < ENTER > after every command

Type DISKPART

Type LIST DISK

Type SELECT DISK 0

Type CLEAN

Type CREATE PRIMARY PARTITION

Type SELECT PARTITION 1

Type ACTIVE

Type FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="Windows 7" QUICK

Type ASSIGN LETTER=C

Type EXIT

Type EXIT

Then back in the Where to install Windows click on Refresh and you should see

Disk 0 Partition 1: Windows 7 C:

Highlight that and click on next .

   Note
If you don't want to use the entire hard drive you could type in CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=51200 that will create a 50GB partition

I'd just found the command prompt when you replied. However at step 2 when I type list disk it says there are no fixed disks to show.

When I go into BIOS and look at SATA it shows 0 GB

I went back into bios and sata and changed it back from IDE to AHCA and it was able to move through the commands above...but now I get to select partition 1 and it says " virtual disk service error: The disk is not initialized."

I just went through the steps again and noticed that when I list disk it has disk 0 listed as 512 B.

I played with it a bit and realized that your line create primary partition was supposed to be create partition primary. When I do that it says "Diskpart has encountered an error: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. see the system event log for more information."

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of marking it Active which overcomes certain install failures.

Same error as above when I create partition primary size 500000. It is a uEFI bios; I think I got it set to legacy only it was set to both before. But both of your links above don't work for me.

And with that reboot the hard drive is grinding.

If the HD is grinding and you got the I/O errors then I'd test it with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check to determine it's condition with certainty.

I had given you the steps to install in UEFI mode so if you tried those and it didn't work you can bypass UEFI to get on with a normal install to MBR disk.

However you should be aware of some minor advantages that UEFI confers so watch this video when you have a chance: Technical Note: UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS - YouTube

It's not as important as getting a perfect Clean Reinstall so I'd focus on that now if you're proceeding and catch up with this later, unless you feel you need to reconsider UEFI now.
