Heres my little problem that came out of the blue was playing a DVD in pc paused same came back later to finish movie and there was no sound i have searched high and low for the cause and nothing seems to work.
The only thing that has come up so far these DELL'S have very bad audio systems and hardly no back up from anyone including DELL its self here are my specs.
I even went into BIOS and disabled integrated audio still nothing was thinking it maybe connected to GPU,AFTER ROOTING AROUND ON THE INTERNET Was thinking a baseball bat might help.

if you have headphones, try plugging them in and see if that helps, that we we can work out if it is an issue with the actual sound device or not.

What is the actual Dell model number, For example Inspiron 580, etc.

Also, are you using HDMI for the Monitor? or are you connecting analog via the GREEN speaker jack? How is it connected and how is the sound connected to the monitor?

Dell's have the same audio as other manufacturers. Its not "bad". I've had Dell's and I've had other brands and ones I've built myself. The audio in all of them worked good. I deal with audio every day as I have a recording studio (but I do use other audio for the recording studio).
