Hi,

I just purcased a factory refurb Compaq Presario Cq71 - 230sa laptop from PC world.
After switching the machine on i noticed there was no sound but didnt think anymore of it. It wasnt until i tried to play music that it hit me nothing was coming from the in built speakers. I have tried all the usual tricks of unistalling and reinstalling drivers, updating them and checking to see if the correct device is selected. I followed all trouble shooting tips and guides from the HP compaq website and even spoke to a tech person from pcworld who ran me through all teh same procedures. In the sound porperty box it shows that sound is playing as the little green bars move up and down as you would expect and windows is telling me that the device is working properly. I even installed windows 7 and still had the same problem and then did a factory restore back to vista and the problem still remains. I can get sound through headphones from the socket but nothing else.

Anyone had any similar problems or have any ideas on a fix?
As I have only had the laptop a few days my only other option is to send it back and get a replacment.

Thanks is advance for your help

If the correct configuration is setup in the Sound Panel, in the Control Panel and nothing is muted I would suspect there is a hardware problem (maybe why it is a "refurbished" unit and was never checked out properly).
