Hi Forum members and best of the Season to you all. I need help with a curios problem. After reinstalling my Win 7 backed up
windows I have no more sound. The sound devices in Control panel say device not plugged in. I have tried many U-tube help posts but nothing worked reinstalling drivers for Realtek sound as well as Nvidea high def sound. I did read a note from Microsoft that they have a Hotfix for the issue but it was not made available. So I am hoping that there may be a aftermarket fix for the sound devises. No matter what I tweak or reinstall nothing works Devices not plugged in. Your help would be much appreciated.
Regards Peter

Sometimes the Nvidia HDMI audio driver can interfere. You can try futzing around in the Nvidia control panel to disable HDMI audio.

Not plugged in means to me that the OS is not making an I/O connection to the hardware. Could even be a BIOS/UEFI setting.

Does Device Manager have any yellow exclamation marks?

Thank you for the reply. I have done as asked and nothing changed- no audio. I looked inside the box to see if wires had been disconnected, but all is well. It might be the win 7 installation. I tried to update win7 it downloaded 9 files. Upon installing them the computer locked up and would not start again. I installed my back up win7 from Macrium Reflect. That went OK but no sound. It seems that the update attempt wiped the sound availability. My backed up Macrium was before the sound was gone. So it should have repaired the fault, but no. Microsoft no longer supports win7 as you know.
Can I format C: and reinstall my Macrium back up? As I have done before but never to a formatted disk.
Any thoughts?

Do you have an MSI H110M PRO-VD motherboard? If so, then MSI has an audio driver that you might want to download and install.
