No Windows 7 Games Explorer Manager

Am I correct to say that this long after Windows 7 has been released there is no Games Explorer Manager? I know of a handful for Vista, but nothing specifically for Win7.

It is obvious that Microsoft is not planning to do anything with it, so what is the hold up?

Now Steam has changed their UI to make it more appealing (and it is) but they don’t let you customize non-steam games either! So I have my Steam games in one place, the few games that install into the GE correctly in another, and all the rest scattered around.

Maybe I should have just bought an Xbox :mad:.

Hi JusticeAA,

Have you actually tried Games Explorer Builder for Vista on Windows 7? EDIT: it works okay for at least 1 person, you might wanna PM them

I think the fact that MS hasn't "done anything" with Games Explorer is precisely why there's no Windows 7 update for these Manager programs. Not enough has changed to make it worth their time... unless of course I'm wrong, none of them work, and nobody has gotten around to it yet :/ so keep me posted!

Cheers,

I tried VGEE and it worked for a while then something happened and it put a bunch of corrupt data in the folder bring the data from the old games that it was trying to mimic for the ratings and such.

I am trying out Game Explorer Manager (GEM) and Game Explorer Builder, but each has its quirks.

Hmm... well hopefully GEM won't give you issues like GEB did. Let me know if you have any further questions.

you could just use Xfire. Its a great game manager and works on all windows OSes. Server tracking/favourites, logs your game hours, allows in-game video, chat, voice, screenshotting, and even screen streaming. Automatically detects all installed games and allows you to launch them from one handy menu.

X fire's just another platform like steam. Some people like the idea of having a games folder to scroll around in and see all their games in one place.

I've tried using the Game Explorer Manager and all sorts of other programs for that matter. They don't work on Windows 7 effectively and I was let down every time I tried.

That being said, if you have a lot of time on your hands and want that professional looking games explorer, you’ll just have to wait until they come up with a fix, or follow this advanced tutorial which I found pretty helpful;

I remember on Vista 32 the games explorer was an easy tool to use to add any game you wanted, steam or not. Too bad they didn't go that direction this time and if you can't find your way around a registry or are not an advanced user, you’ll just have to wait like the rest of us for a quick fix.

Who knows what the future has in store in regards to this fiasco, hopefully a more user friendly version, that’s what everyone wants.

Thanks Kain and dw96! Hopefully JusticeAA has solved the issue by now, or sees this and is able to use your suggestions.
