Hello all,

I was hoping someone could offer advice on a pesky problem I have with my sons school laptop.

He has a relatively new Acer Travelmate P645-M SNID 44804139034 Win 764 bit which just last Monday could not connect to the school server or my modem at home, we can connect with a wire or a dongle but not with the inbuilt wireless adapter.

I have been to Acer site and downloaded the relevant drivers for the devices listed in Device manager and they are all updated. The list under Network adapters is.

Bluetoothx2
Intel Dual Broad band wireless n7260
Intel ethernet
Microsoft virtual mini port adapterx2

I'm assuming the Intel Broadband wireless adapter is the one that connects wirelessly to the internet.

So when the computer starts it looks for a connection but message says no connection available, so I trouble shoot and get "Turn on wireless capability" by using the function keys, so I do this eventhough the wireless lamp is indicating it's on, but no good.

This is a bit frustrating now as everything seems like it's working as it should be but something is blocking the wireless starting up or so it seems.

Now I've been onto Acer support but they only checked the device manager for warnings, but everything is good, their next suggestion is a factory reset, that's something I don't want to do at this stage especially mid school term.

I ran scannow and it fixed some errors but couldn't fix the all so maybe that could be a possibility, I have logs if they are helpful.

Could anyone offer some advice please.

Cheers
james

Ok here's the ipconfig file but wifi inspector doesn't seem to be working.

Disconnect the wired connection (LAN cable) for a test:

Does the network icon change to a set of bars in the shape of a triangle?

If you click on that triangle, do you see a list of Wireless Access Points?

Open the Network and Sharing Center.
Click on the link named Manage wireless networks.
(upper left corner)
Remove each entry there (past connections).
Restart the laptop
If you click on that triangle, do you see a list of Wireless Access Points?

Do you have a place that you can drive to you that offers free, open* Wi-Fi?

*No key required (no password).

That is the simplest type of connection for a wireless card to make.

Look thru the list of installed software. Let us know if you see anything that looks like it manages wireless connections. It is best to let Windows manage the wireless connections.
