Is it possible to have wireless in safe mode with networking? Or does it only work with wired connection? Computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop. Is there some service that needs to be enabled?

I don't use Windows networking, but I see in the services list that there are several networking services. So if you're in safe mode I'm assuming a lot of services are disabled. Now you are using safe mode with networking, but I'm assuming this just means for Internet access only. Meaning it allows those drivers to load absent of networking services needed to share files. But I'm just speculating.

Have you in fact tried this to see if you can share files from one computer to another in safe mode with networking? I'm assuming yes thus your question. If yes, you can verify what services are running while you are in safe mode with task manager. Right click the task bar on the bottom and select Start Task Manager. In Task Manager you have a Services tab. See if the networking services are started. I may try this my self and report back.

If you're asking if you can use the Internet with a WiFi connection in safe mode with networking then it should be possible. I'll have to verify.

I just tested this in VMware in Windows 7 with safe mode with networking and I was able to use WiFi.

When you were in safe mode did you launch your WiFi connection client software to try and make a connection?

Thanks for helping, Simpilot. Yes, I am trying to have wireless working while in safe mode. I was assuming I need safe mode with networking to do that, perhaps I'm wrong about that. I am trying to figure out how to make this happen. In regular mode, I just click on the "strength" icon, and do the connection there. Can't seem to do that in safe mode; the icon does not show up, even if I try to make it visible.

Corrected typo - should be "strength," not "straight."

Not getting anything at all, torchwood, no sign that there even is wireless. Even worse, I tried an ethernet cable, and that does not work either.

I went in to Services in msconfig and checked all boxes relating to wireless, and restarted, no luck. I did not see anything re: ethernet in services.

Safe mode with networking is suppose to allow you to use an Internet connection so I don't know why it isn't working without looking at your computer.

This is Windows 7? Did you try and launch the WiFi application from the start menu like I said? Though, for an ethernet connection not to work doesn't look right.

I'm giving up on this for now. For some reason, the computer is working better, so for the moment I don't need safe mode. I'm not confident this state of affairs will last, however, so you may hear from me again on this.

Meanwhile, thanks to all who have helped me out, I really appreciate it.

One thing that might solve this: tweaking.com's windows repair all in one -- click only the box for Safe Mode (including with Networking) fixing, and if you want, the two 25[?] & 26[?] that reset windows services to normal mode.
