remember also that it said in the letter that the updates were optional and not install by themselves

This means that users will be notified of available updates, but they won’t install automatically. Users will need to go to the Windows Update control panel, select the updates, and manually start installation. These updates will simply replace system files with the same version of the file currently on the system, and will not deliver new features or fixes.

I went back to Build 7000-64 from Build 7022 but I have no updates. When I re-installed build 7000, the system installed 5 updates, which has happened every time I have installed windows 7.

Sounds like the updates will be clearly listed as Test update per MS. Not sure why all the confusion here.

As specifically mentioned by the Microsoft team, the updates won't be automatically installed and will be listed as 'Test update' in the Windows Update control panel. To skip the installation procedure of these test updates, simply right click on each update and select 'Hide Update.'

Sounds like the updates will be clearly listed as Test update per MS. Not sure why all the confusion here.

Update: installed rebooted. No problems so far.

Mine came in OK, didn't have to bother with a restore point either. Everything seems to work as before.

I am installing the updates as I write this. I have Build 7000 64-bit.

Airbot, leave your computer alone .... sometimes it looks like it's stuck, but eventually it gets going again!
Mine got ung up on rebooting and finding no hard drive and no Array set up, but it finally got past that and the 5 test updates were installed successfully.
