Solved None of my shortcuts are working!!!!

Basically im stuck between a rock and a hard place, I had a virus on my lap top so i installed "SuperAntiSpyware" I did the system scan blah blah, killed the virus rebooted and none no short cuts are working, if I to double click it opens a window and tells me to "open with" a program, if i find the program and double click it opens but everytime I want to open it again I have to find it again, it says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" with a tick box next to it but its grey'd out. If i do a system restart it takes me back to when I had the virus, so do i have to choose from either living with a virus or spending 3 hours looking for my programs that i want to open everytime i want to open it ? please help me

Hello Jebus, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Try downloading and merging the lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below to see if it may be able to help. It will restore the default associations for all shortcuts (lnk).

I tried it followed these steps Here's How:
1. Click on the file extension type link listed below for the one that you wish to restore to default to download it's .zip file.

2. Save the .zip file to your desktop.

3. Open the downloaded .zip file, then extract (drag and drop) the .reg file to the desktop.

4. Right click on the extracted .reg file and click on Merge.
Tip
If you do not see a Merge option when you right click on the REG file, then you will need to check in Default Programs to set the reg file extension to have it's Current Default program set as Registry Editor (C:\Windows\regedit.exe). Afterwards, try merging the REG file again.

5. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK.

6. When done, you can delete the downloaded .zip and .reg files on the desktop if you like.

7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.

and unfortunatly it didnt work :'(

Try downloading and merging the exe option in the same tutorial to see if that may help.

Are you experiencing any other issues along with this one. For example, when you right click on program shortcuts or exe files, do you have the "Run as administrator" option in the context menu?

Yep is has a shield next to it saying "Run as administrator"

I think the Exe file has sorted it out though, Thank You !!!! d

That's great news. I figured that it was either the shortcut (lnk) or the shortcut's target (exe) that had a bad association.
