Hiya!!

I just started to wonder that which one of these virus softwares is actually better and more lightweight?? Now i use AIS and it works so damn good all the time and it's so damn lightweight too and very powerfull too, i've never seen better virus softwares than AIS!!! And i really love this new Avast! 5.0 interface!! It's so cool!!

But now i want to know if someone uses NIS and how it works, is it lightweight like AIS is, and is it powerful too like AIS..

I think that AIS and NIS are both very good softwares, but i can't make decision....

One of the worst virus softwares i've ever used: Kaspersky

You are right about Avast being lightweight and it is free.
Norton is a huge heavyweight AV
If you go into the Security Thread you can find pro's and con's on every AV there is.
Common sense is your best AV.

I've heard that Norton is heavyweight...but yes, i normally suggest to use that kind of virus software where's firewall and then disabling windows firewall/defender! And computer works so much better without those and with proper Internet Security with own firewall.

No, it's not.

TheAslan, different systems have different results. One person will find [x] anti-virus lighter/better than [y] anti-virus while another person will find [y] anti-virus is lighter/better than [x] anti-virus.

http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/72070-whats-best-anti-virus.html

Trial Norton and find out how well it works on your system.

With Avast! working so well for you, you may find no point in that.

Norton has a weak scanner detection rate, but an incredibly sophisticated firewall.

But it's your choice on what to use. Also, before, Norton was a large chunk of software which to forever to install and a pain to remove. But now, the installation takes less than a minute, likewise when removing.

Not anymore! The past two years they have made it one of the least resource hogging security suites on the market. I will try to cite a reference later. But I swear by NIS 2010 and prior to that only used Avast, AVG

And computer works so much better without those and with proper Internet Security with own firewall.

I'm a big fan of complete security suites in conjunction with a solid anti-spyware program.

As mentioned by someone else, the Norton Firewall is FANTASTIC and especially great for those who are not very tech savvy and just want to turn it on and leave it alone. The SONAR and Heuristic settings set to Aggressive really do the job for me.

The A/V scanner is good (not great) but only if you use a secondary anti-pyware program. I've been using IOBit 360 for that and if I'm being paranoid I will run SUPERAntiMalware or SanityCheck for on demand scanning. That Immuniet Cloud A/V is also decent and can run side-by-side with Norton if you have the resources.

Sorry for the lack of links but I'm on the run right now. I will come back and post later.

Note: Comcast users can now get a free, lighter version of the Norton Internet Security Suite and it would be interesting to compare that with the retail version... I run the lightweight version on my laptops. Two Thumbs up from me!

I prefer Norton because it looks cooler and has a good customer support experience. (For me) Runs slow on my old computers but fast on the current one. I've tried Avast, but it was just too... weird.

I beta test Norton products and have to admit that the new Norton products (2009 on) are much lighter and use minimal resources compared to Norton of old. NIS2010 is very fast and light, installs in less than 60 seconds and can scan your HD in about 5 minutes (once it's done the initial scan and knows which files/processes are safe).

All that said though I use and prefer MSE and recommend that to everyone who asks me for PC advice!!

What Nonsense... :( :( :(

Nothing wrong with Avast, it's a great solution. I prefer NIS2010 and have it on 100's of clients machines and no longer need to waste time with Virus and Spyware issues. ;)
