Norton Subscription Fees makes no sense.

The blue Spikes in the Graph is everything on your PC (Windows Included) Using CPU time.

The Yellow spikes Norton is responsible for. You seldom see it use much at all though.

If you live in the US, you can often get Norton for quasi nothing. Look into the Sunday ads. Last year I got it for $59,95 with a $60 Mail in Rebate for which I got a check in the mail after a couple of months. Thus I only paid the sales tax (6.5%).

lol We're talking about subscription fees and it somehow turns into a rant about it? Just get an AV and at the end of the day, if it protects you who cares.

there's nothing in particular wrong with norton but i find it to be a cumbersome, everytime someone comes to me saying they can't get online they have norton on..removing it oddly fixes the problem but at least thats the only issue it has.

for me it's the look of norton that makes me hate it though, black with gold/yellow stripes and flashy things...i just can't stand that garbage.

my ideal av
clean simple do your job sit in the corner and shut the hell up and i'll see you again on renewal day.

For me eset fills that almost...not quiet but almost.

The thing is i can say get eset i've not had a virus or anything since i had it, and you can say the same about norton or bit defender or avg or...you get the picture but i still see people with no av to speak of not getting them either.

the best av in the world is good disciple when your online it's that simple, avoid dodgy websites(easier said than done).

it doesn't matter what av you have as they all come a cropper to one virus or another.

I use NIS 2011 + Malwarebytes. So far Malwarebytes hasn't picked up anything Norton missed but I keep running the odd safety check using it.
I don't like MSE.
I don't find NIS much of an overhead at boot time.
I don't like spending money but sometimes I do.

MSE fouled up on me and I dumped it. If NIS fouls up I'll dump it as well - there's lots of choice.

When I use Windows, I only use MSE. Paying for antimalware apps is pointless. None of them are 100% effective and the free stuff is just as good as the overpriced pointless stuff. Its time Windows was beefed up security wise, seeing as it was never designed with security as the first goal.

Thats why I use Avast, simple, clean and effective for the most part, and I use Spybot Search and Destroy with a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware side dish, altogether you have a decent bit of AV/AS/AM cooking that fries pretty much everything.

Let's just start by saying this computer is a bit of a hodge-podge machine. Hardly any of its parts are standard these days, ever since i got it I've tweaked and tuned it into something that while its not as powerful as other computers it will certainly catch your attention and is rather memorable, hopefully not for the wrong reasons.
I think that it's a pity that this thread, which originally addressed the issue of Norton subscription fees, has developed into a marathon "Which is the best antivirus software" thread. I think this thread is more appropriate for that question.

back on tiopic i think symantec should rethink norton renewal prices.
because now its better to buy new than renew.
in my opinion it should be opposite.
you buy product pay initial price and then you can renew it cheaper.
antivirus market is very competitive
and there is free products.

Perhaps they have already rethought the situation and it is currently exactly as they want it in order to produce the maximum amount of revenue from those who use their product.

When it comes time to renew unless I renew earlier, If I can't get my Subscription renewal for less then what I paid for the retail price, I'm going to dump Norton. One question remains, what does Nortons Competitor sell a subscription renewal fee for ? Near identical to what Norton Subscription renewal Free ? Fee alternatives will be put into consideration but they usually don't have everything in one package, if you want some of the additions you usually have to buy their pro version, which usually includes a subscription fee, which brings you back to square one. Subscriptions can be effective, that is if the yearly renewal is less then buying a brand new version.

It is logical to buy a $200 program and the subscription fee a year is $55, buying a brand new version would set you back $150 not including taxes. Buying a program for $200 and the yearly renewal fee is $140-$160 doesn't add up logically.

If I remain content with Norton as a product I'll just reinstall a boxed version x3 license if cheaper.
Maybe Norton rely on the lazy factor. In my case they'll wear the added supply chain costs.

I'm late to the party but whatever :P Don't ever drop your money on Norton/McAfee. They're not worth cracking either! Stick with any decent free solution like Avast or MSE and with a bit of prudence as well there is no way you'll get infected. A good hosts file helps too.
