Not able to connect to LAN when connected to VPN

hi , i am using aventail VPN client for connecting to my clients network but when i am connected to the VPN i am not able to connect to my company's LAN.
i am facing this issue only in windows 7, previously in windows 2003 i just used to append the primary and connection specific DNS and all used to work properly.But this does not work in windows 7.

Please help me.

Right this is normal. The VPN is a Tunnel stopping local traffic. To be able to get to LAN computers you would have to Break through the VPN tunnel. That defeats the VPN.

If you had a VPN router to establish the VPN connection to your remote system then your computer would be able to browse the local LAN and the VPN tunneling is done after the LAN computers.

You can't. That is the whole point of a VPN tunnel. You have to disable the VPN tunnel, IE drop the VPN connections.

Is this on a Work computer? If it is you should talk to the IT guys at your place of work.

They may not like you connecting the system to an UnKnown LAN. Even if it is your home LAN.

But when i was using windows Xp i could break this tunneling by simpling appending DNS names in my primary DNS but it doesnot work in windows 7 so any other way to do this in windows 7 will be really appreciated.
