Karl, I'm going to pack it in for tonight.

The program you ask about is part of the Seagate DiscWizard. I haven't used it in over a year - great, huh? - so the copy I have on a 230 Seagate HD is well out of being a timely copy. I one I have is a clone copy of my HD. - jb

Hello Karl - tks for the help.

When I try uncheck the items I get the message - "Settings from loaded scans cannot be modified." - jb

I believe you've got to do another live scan in order to change the settings of any of the items, rather than trying to do it using the results from a previous scan that's been saved and reloaded.

Tks f5, but I find no way to do a scan.

When the program comes up, it has the window full of files and I get that message when I try to uncheck an item. Since that computer can't get to the internet, I can't get to the help files either.

Am I missing something? - jb

Hey, Jeb.

Did you happen to spot my post about routing the internet to your main computer through your older (working) computer? It's a temporary measure but it should make working on your computer easier. Let me know if your interested and the version of Windows on your older computer and I'll give you step-by-step instruction specifically for that version of Windows. You could also google "Bridge network adapters" to find information on doing it, if you would prefer.

Pete - tks for the offer, I will have to find a cable to hook up it I decide to go that way

Grag, when I do a search for autoruns.exe, nothing is found. If I do just autoruns two come up, one doc and one files. Neither will allow me to run as admin on a right click but I am logged on as admin.

On the doc, it brings up the autoruns program with the window full of files. On the files, it brings up winzip with autoruns.am listed. That will not show run as admin when I right click either. When I click on it, the same autoruns program comes up with the files in the window. - jb

Okay. I sometimes forget not everyone has a few of em laying around. I'll keep checking this thread in case I see anything else I can give advice on. Greg and Karl have a lot more experience with Autoruns than I do. Do what they say and I'm sure everything will workout.

jeb1001, I see you're still watching this thread. Have you been able to re-run autoruns?

Going from bad to worse.

Ran autoruns again, made the changes - and only the changes - that Karl gave me and restarted the computer.

It will not start - comes up with message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."

Gives me two options - run startup repair or start normally. Will not start normally so ran repair. After a period of time it comes up with "Windoiws cannot repair this computer automatically."

I have tried but cannot get into safe boot either.

Next? - jb

Following the steps Greg posted and so far it is going OK. It is now finalizing a file restore - something it would not do when we tried the last couple of days.

Then do you have a Restore Point from before you started trying to uninstall ATT which you can try?

OK - restore worked - restored back to where the ATT comm manager was installed - does not show a restore point beyond that.

Almost back to where we started with my first post with the following exceptions - the ATT comm manager will not come up. I ran the install on it and it no longer shows under programs but when I try to reinstall the program it comes up with the old "later version" message and will not install.

Everything else seems to be working as expected.

Suggestions? - jb

Edit - I ran the UNSTALL of the ATT comm manager and it no longer shows under programs but still comes up with the "later version" message.

Greg, I have run revo again to uninstall ATT comm manager and then run the scan. It comes up with 284 values and 184 values. Some of these are in red - you had said to go ahead and delete these but do I also delete the ones in red?

The ones in red are - My Computer, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE Classes, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersion, Uninstall, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet and Services.

Edit - That's 184 keys.

ATT comm manager is gone - reinstalled and working. :) I am connected and using the computer in question now, not the old laptop I had been using for the last 5 days.

Ran Revo and deleted everything it found. It came up with a second window with over 200 more files, deleted them. 4 remained and a message that they would be deleted upon reboot.

Rebooted, reinstalled without any problems and all appears to be working OK.

A very big tks to Greg, Karl, Pete, F5 and the others of you who gave of your time to help. The world is a better place with people like you. - jb
