Not really BSOD, but incredibly similar

So basically, I was using my computer and all of a sudden, the mouse stopped working and strange colors started to replace the bar on the bottom of the computer and also various patterns of black started to show up. After a computer restart, I encountered the same problem. I used the system reboot and system recovery, but when the OS loads, I get a system recovery failed message and the same problem begins to occur. If I could get anyone's help it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

First, it would really help if you would include your system specs. At the top of any forum page, click on "User CP" and in the left column that opens up, click on "Edit System Spec".

Can you remember exactly what you were doing when your mouse suddenly "...stopped working and strange colors started to replace the bar on the bottom of the computer and also various patterns of black started to show up." Be as specific as possible because what you were doing could provide a clue.

Some general things to try:

This problem could be malware related. Run a full scan with your installed anti-virus suite. Since no anti-malware product is 100% effective 100% of the time, running additional on-demand scans is always suggestd. These free products are often recommended. The more scans that are run (only one at a time!) the greater the probability your computer is without malware.

Check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan three times and reboot the computer after each scan.

You could also try rolling back your computer to a date/time before this problem first started by using system restore.

Thank you so much for your help, but I'm afraid that it doesn't really help. I apologize for the lack of detail, but I will try to make it better the second time. The problem that I am having is that when I turn on my computer and Windows 7 launches it works fine for about a minute, and then the screen shows the difference in color and it freezes. Because of this I am unable to launch my anti-virus software. And the restore doesn't work for some reason, even if I restored the system to a time where I wasn't experiencing the problem. There are parts on the screen that actually change color. I hope this is good enough detail, because I don't really know how else to explain it. Thanks again

This sound very much like an over heating issue, Sure at first it will look fine but as windows boots the part in your computer memory processor or north / south bridge could be over heating or if you have a separate video card it could be the video card overheating, This can happen say if a cpu or vid card fan isn't working correctly or at all, maybe only needs to be blown out or maybe already on its way out or shot. Or heatsinc paste dried up or heatsinc came lose a number of things, Of course this could be a windows issue after all so i would check all the above, First check temps and if all reads ok fire up live linux on a live cd or live usb and if it works fine you know something in windows is wrong and you can proceed to trouble shoot windows, Try safe mode and see if that works F8 at startup just keep tapping it every 1 second as computer boots and select safe mode. so there is a number of things that could be wrong, Whenever i see corruption i first check my temps to make sure im not overheating, Overheating for to long or real high temps can do permanent damage. I have a home built pc and after a cpl months it gets dusty and processor starts to heat up a lot normally 24 c idle but over 50c idle after not being blown out for a cpl months, Once you rule out over heating then trouble shoot windows and devices in your machine. anything can go bad even memory craps out every now and then.
