The key in use is an OEM-SLP key. It will be different from the one on the sticker. Every HP with that version of Windows installed at the factory will have that same key. Factory OEM Windows 7 installs don't activate online, they activate against a SLIC table in the BIOS. The OEM's insert the SLIC table in the BIOS at the factory. A factory install coming up non genuine is usually a result of corrupted system files, or a BIOS flash with the wrong BIOS. The OEM-SLP key is only usable with the custom factory install media. And then its auto entered anyway. The key on the COA sticker is a OEM-COA key. It's a backup key for use with stock install media. That key is unique to the PC its attached too. I've had to use those keys in the past, and when I did I had to do a phone activation the first time I used one. If you swap that key in for the current key, you may still have to do a phone activation. It's all automated and rather painless. Voice recognition etc.

Roy, I followed the instructions in the tutorial and after entering the commandslmgr.vbs /upkI got an error message:

"Error: 0xC004F014 The Software Licensing Service Reported that the product key is not available."

Roy sorry for the confusion, I ran the file as indicated and got the "success" message. Machine has been rebooted and the "Not Genuine" message did not appear after startup. Also should I worry about the line that states "Windows rearm count: 1", for the future?

thats lookin good to me, the scripting error has gone,
Thats what was causing the non-genuine.

The rearm count being 1 is not a biggy, should be 2 after what we've done.
and youve still got the COA code as a back-up
