Not sure if i did clean install right

Ok so i booted up with vista. Put in the windows 7 home premium disc. Picked custom install. Selected the portion of my hd i wanted to install on. From there it just installed but i did not watch it as it restarted. was i supposed to hit a key as it restarted or something? i have a windows.old file. does that mean i did it wrong?

For a clean install, yes, you have to boot from the DVD. One of, if not thee best guide to do a clean install is this...

Go into "Disc Cleanup" and click on "Cleanup System Files". Check all the boxes and then click ok.

If i just put the disc again and do the clean install correct will it work? Also i see three different methods to solve my problem. Is any one particulary easy? Will all three of these methods equal to a clean install? I know its like i almost did the clean install but i want it to be fully clean so its like i have a brand new comp...and i want to free up some Hard Drive space. Also thank you for the welcome to the forum.

The clean install that FZ21Z link to is a very good tutorial to use to install Windows 7. Nothing will be left of any old windows if done properly. Good luck to you

The cleanest possible install you can do is to boot from the DVD, select Custom install, then use Drive tools to delete all partitions, create new one(s) as you desire, then format before installing Win7 to first partition.

Win7 installer is driver complete, but any missing drivers can be found on your model computer's Support Downloads webpage along with favorite apps. You can also back up the Vista windows/system32/drivers file from windows.old folder to browse for any missing drivers.

If you are satisfied with the Custom install you did, then hang with it to see if it works like you want, deleting windows.old after you're sure you have everything from it.
