Notebook wakes immediately after closing the screen?

I have been trying to run down a problem of my pc waking from sleep as soon as i close the screen. I have been throught the device mgr, mgmt.msc, pc is updated, and i only experience this when i close the top.....if i put the pc to sleep and dont close the top it works perfectly....close the top....5 seconds later....pc wakes and the logs report says that its the power button is waking the pc....dont know how because i cant access power button when the top is closed...please help.

On the assumption you have nothing crazy going on e.g. the top somehow depressing the power button when you close it, have you tried changing what closing the top does in the power settings from sleep or whatever its currently set at to "do nothing" ?

Then when you put it to sleep from the start button, and if you have nothing going on as I mentioned above, it should stay sleeping when you close the top.

Just a suggestion.

I have tried those things

ive tried changing what closing the lid does....same effect on all three settings. the power button is slightly depressed into the cover so theres no way the lid could be touching it. are u suggesting that i change what the power button does? how will i power up the unit if i do that.....only things i have done recently....installed new video LCD cable and microphone(open monitor to install). but i cant see that beeing the problem. i have even tried restoring to an earlier point, but both of those attempts failed.

Since I am not familiar with what laptop you have, are there any power settings that can be applied in BIOS (usually pressing F1 when prompted before windows kicks in) - I know its unlikely, but some models do have power settings.... has this just happened i.e. it worked fine before ?

just happened

i update bios for this laptop and still no settings in bios for wake on WLAN....i couldnt find any wireless settings in the bios....i leave the lid up and it works perfect....put to sleep and close the top....it wakes up with the top closed. i set it back to sleep when i close the top.....so i tried just closing the top without putting to sleep through windows sleep and it goes to sleep......but wakes up.....

This sounds like you have developed a fault in the ribbon cable that joins the screen to the main laptop as if the mechanism of shutting the lid is somehow activating the processor to wake up. To verify you do not have something faulty like this, have you tried restoring back to a previous working level in case it is something in the current setup causing it that can't be explained.

thanks for pointing that out....i have considered that.....but wanted that to be a last resort as i have the pc back together now...i tried restoring back to recent dates but those failed .....think i will try to restore to a much earlier time to see what that does....

this is my third lcd cable for the notebook so i have had it apart quite alot....along with all my other pcs....you can fix them or throw them away....because they will break.

Think your best option is to restore to a time way back then take it from there if it doesn't work....
