Nothing Appears In "Services" Screen

I started getting this error message out of the blue "MMC requires internet explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed" when I tried to open the "Device Manager" and "Services" so I found this thread here http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/3214-opening-ports-windows-2.html and ran WindowStar's .Reg file and I now have the Device Manager but nothing appears in the "Services" screen.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on and if there's an easy fix or will I have to do a Windows 7 Repair Install?

I'm starting to find programs that don't work one (PC Matic) won't start because it says no ActiveX components are installed.

The contents of that reg file are incredibly simple

If you are familiar with regedit, you should be able to undo the change.

No I don't know how to undo the change but why would I want to because at least now I can open Device Manager and Services even though nothing shows. Before I installed the .Reg file all I got was the error I mentioned above.

Well I'm actually not getting this error anymore "MMC requires internet explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed" since I installed the .Reg file although whatever caused it is still creating problems but these are my current issues:

1. When I go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services nothing in displayed in the Service screen

2. When I try to run PC Matic I get: ActiveX Components required by the program cannot be loaded and/or updated.

I'm pretty sure whatever is causing the Service screen to be blank is related to PC Matic not running plus the 5.5 IE error screen.

does just typing services.msc in the run box have the same affect?
Probably wouldn't hurt to look at your application logs now as well.

never hurts to do a sfc /scannow either.

Ok since I'm not used to going to "Services" I didn't notice there was two tabs "Extended" and "Standard" and it had defaulted I guess to "Extended" but clicking the "Standard" tab it shows everything so I guess this part is working.

I ran sfc /scannow and it showed everything as normal.

So I think the problem is still related to"MMC requires internet explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed" error which I no longer get and when I try to run PC Matic I get: "ActiveX Components required by the program cannot be loaded and/or updated" which I'm still having problems with.

It's a solution for xp but possibly valid for 7.

...it's a very strange problem no doubt.

Yes I was going to try that but the file IE.INF wasn't there so that's when I found here someone created a .Reg file which seems to somewhat work although the file still isn't there.

What do you do to install ActiveX components which it says I'm now missing (wasn't missing before this issue appeared)?

Do you think a Repair Install would fix this problem?
