Notification Area Icon Dwell Time

New to Windows 7, like it a lot, but I have one thing that is driving me batty.

On the taskbar, in the notification area, I have many of the standard Windows system icons, volume, power settings, wifi, hidden icons, etc. When I try to access the options in those popup notifications. the notification disappears so quickly that I don't even have time to get my cursor on it. Maybe one in five tries I can get on it before it folds, but for practical purposes trying to use those icons is hopeless. It seems like the 'puter or the OS is just too fast.

I found one crackbrain suggestion to take out the battery (I have a laptop) and to press the power button a few times, and them replace battery and boot. Naturally, that solution didn't work, but I tried it anyway. There is also a suggestion about using the Ease of Use to set a time for notifications.... that doesn't do it. The notification area doesn't play by those rules. 5 seconds? I can't get 1/5 of a second.:D

I found a few instances of people having the same problem, but no solutions. Anyone have an idea how to solve this? Thanks.

Hello Gill, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if one of the options in the tutorial below may allow the notification messages to stay open longer.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I made reference to that fix in my post, and as I said, it doesn't work for my problem. The minimum time setting there is 5 seconds, so if I could get that I'd be a happy camper. Mine is already set at five seconds but I'm getting a tiny fraction of a second to react. I think those settings are for a different type of notification.

Thanks for the reply.
