Notification Area Tweak

Hello all,

After hours of Googleing I haven't been able to find an answer to what I'm trying to accomplish so I hope someone here has an answer or an idea for me.

The Notification area in Windows 7 has a customize link to where you can show or hide different icons. In that customize section there is an icon to a program that I have installed and running in the background that I don't want to be there. I want that icon NOT to be displayed at all in that customize section.

I've found many of sites that show how to "clean" the notification area but that's not what I'm trying to do. Cleaning implies the app is no longer installed and the icon was left behind somehow. Also completely disabling the tray notification is not an option.

I want to be able to either remove the link to the customize option in the notification area or just remove the program icon itself via a registry tweak, loca Policy or any other way. I'm not sure is disabling the notification Area Applet in the control panel will help but if there's a way to do that I'm also open to try it

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not sure why you need to do this but I doubt there's a method other than telling the program not to display the icon. Maybe a registry tweak but that's probably program dependent.

Unless the application itself has an option to not put the icon in the systray then no, it can not be removed, unless you MAybe find the reg keys specific to that app that might place that icon there. Which could be kinda difficult.

Otherwise, no, talk to the developer.

Hello Croket, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure if this is what you are wanting, but this will completely hide and remove the notification area on the taskbar. It works in Windows 7 as well as Vista.

Notification Area - Hide All System Icons - Vista Forums

If you are just wanting to remove a single item from the notification area, then unless the program is uninstalled or has an option in it to remove it from the notification area, I'm not sure if it can be removed any other.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn
